M6 0-60 strategy

So, anybody else here trying to better their 0-60 times? My best stock number has been 5.4s and I recently ran a 5.3s with the JacFab BoL installed. That was with a great launch but a pretty week shift into second. Unnecessary weight, 3/4 tank gas, etc...

My best strategy so far is to rev up between 2500-3000 rpm, and not simply drop the clutch but release quicker than usual, then use no-lift shift going from first to second. I can usually hit 60 in second gear, as well. I usually leave the nannies on...

Anybody see merit to turning TC or StabiliTrak off? Any different strategy? Shift into third for the last 10 mph? Hard launch with more spin?

My next step is to reinstall the RaceChip when it arrives with new software and firmware, test it for a few days, and then go for some 0-60 runs. I’ll probably take the rear tires down to about 25 psi, empty the (very organized) trunk, and run the tank down to 1/4 full. I really want to see sub-5s. 4.6s is the dream.

I've got no dog in the M6 world but try not hard launching just barely getting into it so you don't chirp or spin the tires when you send it. There is no reason to have T/C on you can play with turning both off but i found it breaks loose to easy with stabilitrak off.

I cut off the nannies, have a 2,500-3,000rpm launch with progressive throttle trying not to light up the tires but still inducing some tire spin on the edge of traction. Totally stock car with empty trunk and typically 1/2 tank or less of gas nets me 5.3 seconds on the stock all season goodyears whether I keep it in 2nd or shift to 3rd. With autocross tires I've done 4.9 staying in 2nd gear.

I’m pretty sure that’s a good way to break a half shaft....

Perhaps...the e-brake automatically releases when it senses forward motion. I wasnt suggesting dropping the clutch...just curious if anybody has done it.

I don't have much use here. Because I haven't had the real opportunity for good testing. Fortunately I am less than an hour to NE Dragway, and they have a good street crowd 2x a week. So I have to order a helmet. All in all you want to develop consistency. I am going to look around for some kind of device that will light a LED at preset RPM, to steady my shift points. this is M6 vs A8 area. Then manage your small changes from there. Log your changes too. OK so a small bit of soap box, one of my masters projects was Design of Experiments. Process optimization. People have no idea the power of a good mathematical run chart that you can design.

after looking around this gets more to familiar territory than the scholarly stuff.

slowpoke...

I tried a few 0-60 runs, both with and without no lift shifting, for the first time yesterday. NLS worked exactly as advertised, I was shifting around 6000.

I need practice! My 0-60 times were awful slow whether I did NLS or not. Nannies were on so I will have to try without TC next time. Launching at about 2000-2500rpm.

All stock '19 LS, mn6, stock all seasons, 80 degrees and dry yesterday outside San Antonio.

cheers, Mig

BTW-- anyone else autocrossing in S.A. or Austin areas?

This is interesting. I wasn't aware that we could get to 60 in second gear. What RPMs is that at? My best so far is a 5.4 on the 1LE tires. But that is with a shift to 3rd. Best launch is at 2700-2800 and no clutch slipping.

It's been a few months since the last post. Has anyone bettered their times?

It seems to be directly proportionate to brute force power. For M6 I don't think anyone has finessed times better than factory without some power adders. I believe most like myself go for broke in 2nd if you have some aftermarket bolt ons or plugins that help extend the boost range. yes you can hit 60 in 2nd, but I will have to open my logs to get the exact rpm. Well chosen bolt ons should get you chasing 5.0, extemely well written code ( if you tune) and fueling mods should get you bragging rights in the sub 5s. I spend more time than I should admit at NE dragway so I see and hear a lot. And read a lot.

Here ya go. 60mph looks like around 6300 or so in second. Although, I would really suggest shifting these cars earlier than 6k in all gears. Unless you are actually making power up there. Most are not.

Awesome. I will try this again staying in 2nd gear. I get the best seat of the pants feel if I shift around 5800.
