During the winter months up here in cold central NY I have some time to figure out my tire replacement for the spring. Still have the stock Goodyear's on now and at 7000mi the rears are pretty much toasted. I plan on a good ole viking funeral for them before new rubber.
I have come to conclude that I will be putting the R888R 315 wide on the back.
Any thoughts or opinions on the fronts? Should I match with the rears R888R's all around. Or maybe some ps4, continental , or new stock Goodyear's for the front?

Because I like the wife tire look on all 4 corners I did PS4S in the front in 295/30/20. Just a bit wider than stock. For the rear I went 325/30/20 with a custom wheel and offset. I love it

Funny I just priced toyo r888r's today for my spring purchase and was wondering the same thing. My tires have plenty of tread left but with 850 at the tire the stock ss 1le tires on my ss 1le don't hold as good as the ps4s tires I have on the zl1 1le lol (the zl1 1le only has an intake and a catback for now but it will get some love soon)

Will the 295 front fit on the stock with no rub issues?
I want the R888R on the rear for the "from the dig grip" something on the front that might last a bit but still handle well.

I have been running Toyo R888Rs on the back, 315/30/R20

And Bridgestone RE-71Rs on the front, 295/30/R20

The RE-71R is similar in appearance to the R888R and gives a VERY balanced handling fell to the car. When I first got the R888Rs on the rear with the stock Goodyears on the front, it was a handling nightmare on the twisty roads. The car would push the front end EVERYWHERE like a freaking snowplow.

With the RE-71Rs, it is balanced and bites like hell! The front and rear have the same holding power and generally "let go" of bite at the same time. That is until you use the right peddles to start swinging the ass around a bit.

I'm Learning From Experience On My ZL1!
If you have added significant amounts of horsepower to your Z, then 305, 315, and 325's aren't going to help much.
My next stop will be rear wheels with Z1LE offsets so I can run a 345 or 355 on the rear.
Racing Slicks are the only real way to hook on a drag track...but you can have fun with DOT's.
I DD my little Monster, so I still like the ride and handling of a 20' wheel and tire...hopefully a 345 will allow DECENT traction! Lol

Really, the r888 is a terrible street tire (it wasn't great in my wheel to wheel racing either). Unless you're able to do a burnout before launching, the tire isn't anywhere near it's proper operating temperature. Right from tirerack https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...el=Proxes+R888
Toyo Tires recommends the following general set-up guidelines for the Proxes R888:

Operating Temperature: 160°F to 220°F

Tires are like brake pads, designed to operate at specific temperatures. Track tires and track pads both are generally terrible on the street because they can't get to their designed operating temperature..they don't work well below those temperatures.

You'll get a lot more grip on the street from a max performance type - PS4S, conti extreme type. If you really want grip on the street, the cup2, trofeo r types will likely be the best, assuming reasonably warm ambient temps.

I know people are going to swear the r888 is great..but unless it's a mostly-track-car, rarely street driven (and after a few heat cycles, their lack of cold grip will scare the bejeezus out of you), I think there are much better choices..

I do think the tread pattern looks great though

The tires you are talking about and with the tire rack link is the r888. I am considering the R888R the newer better version of the Toyo tire.
With that said I am open to other tire options but from asking around and reading reviews the R888R seems like a legit tire. I don't do any tracking of.my.car but I do drive pretty hard when I can.
Alot of people speak highly of the PS4 and the Continental Extreme though

I run 295s as well.. I have the Kumho PS91 295 30 20 all around on the wifes SS best bang for the buck... quiet, good ride, handles decent, good dry traction, excellent wet traction.

On my Z I run the r888r 345 30 19s and RE11s 305s 19 on front.


Had such good luck with kumho on wife's Im gonna rune the V720 305 30 19s all 4 corners of my zl1, the viper ACR runs them except they are shaved and heat cycled.

I just think the MP4s are about 100 bucks each more than they should be in price for what you get.. My friend lost a lot lap time over the goodyears that came on the car originally when he switched. he did gain wet traction and mileage though.

The r888r is still a track tire, with the same recommended temperatures. On the street, you're just not able to get (and keep) the necessary heat in this kind of tire for it to be grippy.

As an added bonus, once they get a handful of heat cycles on them, they're like ice skates when cold. And by cold, I mean street driven temperatures.

They're just not intended to be a street tire... The max performance street tires will give you MORE grip, be more fun (ie not scary when cold), and last longer.

Even the ps4s/conti extreme (and cup2 / trofeo more so) need some heat in them to be at their best...but at least when cold, they aren't awful.

For a non track driven car, the whole class of tires that the r888/r fit in is not a good choice - ra1, bfg r1, etc.

I have always had r888r’s on all of my cars. I have a zl1 I just bought and plan on getting them again. I just sold a ss Procharged camaro that made 650rwhp and these tires would hook in 30 degrees outside. They are the best tire for high horsepower street cars. They tend to be a louder tire on certain pavement. Almost sound like a bad wheel bearing. I have spent a lot of money on tires and have done a lot of steet racing and these are the best.

Nickle thanks for your input.. goes to show you everyone has their own opinion of their choice. A friend of mine is running nitto nt05r on his zl1 and enjoys those. Did you run R888R on all four? I was thinking about a more well rounded tire for the front like I have said above.
