If in fact the original listed problem was accurate, my guess is the factory rear diff self destructed. There are a few 6th gens that are on this forum I’ve read about. Something about the bolt size or torque setting on the rear diff CV joint wasn’t right from the factory would cause a self destructing rear diff.

How the hell it got from that to a starter is a 9th wonder of the world.

I would verify with GM that it is still covered under full warranty. I've seen some buy backs before that besides the branded title the factory warranty was cancelled. In any case, its probably not worth buying it.

Vehicle could have had two issues, starter and rear differential. Both have been common issues and both very easy to repair and neither would cause any issues down the road.

That's weird, there's a Meyer GM dealership in my hometown here in Wisconsin that does quite a few buyback cars. I looked at a 2016 buyback SS before I bought my 2017 new. They wouldn't budge on the price to where I'd feel comfortable dealing with possible fallout from the buyback branding. Good Luck.

I would wonder why it was bought back. And if it was fixed. A mechanic told me for buy back, make sure you know the truth of what happened and if it’s engine or transmission related. Sometimes electrical too depends on what it was because those are nightmares to repair too.
