TRAILER LOADING
Has anyone come up with a kit or a way to get ahold of the new Camaro`s to winch them into a trailer and then tie them down? The cars are so low and particularly the front it is hard to hook them up.The tow bolt in the grill isn`t all that good because of the offset from the center. Any ideas or help?

I've always driven a car on a trailer unless it wasn't running. There are risks both ways but I worry about using a winch, especially with a modern car.

My biggest concern is if there is maybe a bolt on kit to tie the car down once it is in the trailer. That could also serve to winch it in. I think.

I Have e-track in the floor and bought straps that go over the tires. They click into e-track in front of and behind each tire then the strap stays tight to the floor and comes out from under the car and connects to a third point where you ratchet it tight. Only part of the car that is touched is the od of the tires. If you don't have e-track in you trailer you can add it for under 500 bucks including the 4 quality straps i bought.

I winch the car into my enclosed trailer using the zl1 add ons tow hook... yes its a bit off center, and it loads up the winch on one side, but no issues..
Unfortunately, unless you have etrack int he trailer, through the wheels has been the only way I have hooked up the car to tie it down. |

I tie down by the wheels as well. Crossed in the back and straight in the front.

Just offset your winch on the trailer and use the tow hook. I bought the Summit blue straps and tie mine down over the front arms and the rear over the main arm for the coil springs. Use a axles strap on the front and the rear. I've been towing my Camaro like this for over 3 years. Works awesome.

I replace my straps every couple years also. They take a beaten and frayed a little and for 100 bucks its not worth the chance to have one fail. I tow a lot. I don't have pictures of the front. I had a 1 year old 24 ft Titan enclosed trailer but had some issues with the siding and went back to an open 20 ft Sundowner, this MOFO is the best trailer I've ever owned. No steel trailers for me ever.

Yep, I towed my enclosed with my 1500 and mine has a 6.2 with air bags on the rear plus its lowered 2-4 so tows awesome and I do use a sway bar in case its windy. No big deal tow 78 to 80 mph all the time and the trailer has 4 wheel brakes so I never worry about not being able to bring her down if needed. How you load it is the most important thing as to how the trailer acts behind you. Got that down perfectly and I've towing for 51 years so I'm good to go. I do have a Magnuson SC to install on mine at some point but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have the ZL1 Addons tie down links and the jack pad coming. I will figure out how to use them with my enclosed trailer. Thanks for all the response. I think this post turned out good. |
