Brakes!!

Haven’t had the rotors mic’d yet but preemptively planning on rotor turning or replacement at least for the fronts. What are you guys running for pads on the street and what rotors y’all using for replacement? Thanks

Z26s here on the street. Very good feel, not quite as good as OEM, but MASSIVELY less dust. Both OEM and the Z26 are silent for me.

Probably nothing. But in case they are out of spec to be turned I’d like to know what my options are for when the day comes to replace them.

I totally recommend the Z26 on the street, 1000% less dusting.

So z26 pads it is. How about rotors?

Z26 pads for low dust street use.

For rotors assemblies (GM doesn't sell just rings) get the GM ones from Rock Auto or other source:
Rock Auto p/n 1771193 and 1771194 ( Delco 177-1193 and 177-1194)

For just replacement rings (Non-GM) see KNS Brakes

Thank you sir. This is what I’m looking for. Seems a little counter intuitive to replace just the rings or is this becoming common practice over buying the whole rotor assembly?

Some guys that track like to use the other rings that may be superior to the stock GM rings. The hats can be reused without too much effort

I track my car plenty and like OEM Brembo disk/hat assembly just fine. Very robust performance and longevity wise. DBA rings might possibly be a wee bit better, but no imperical data exists at this stage to support this claim per se.

If one streets their car only, the OEM brake components should last for a very long time. Unless the rotor is warped, no need to have it turned and make it thinner!
Albeit many a shop will recommend it to score extra cash from a poorly educated consumer. The same as some shops will insist that new rotors should be installed with each change of pads. Ridiculous, to say the least.

Welcome to the party Trackclub. Exactly why I said that they may be superior and not that they are superior. I track my car plenty with the GM rotors but have heard good things about the other rings.

By the way the OEM disk/hat rotor assembly is a Delco part (not Brembo) made in the USA.

To find out about what GM says about when and how to refinish the rotors, read the service manual

Thanks! Been at the party for a while now
Yep agree about your comments re rings.

As far as parts: all parts have either a GM and/or ACDelco designation regardless who makes them as an OEM part. For example, Brembo calipers (Italy) have an ACDelco number. Ferodo pads (Italy) also have an ACDelco part number. Etc. And so the OEM rotors have ACDelco part number. But, ACDelco does not manufacture parts. They just consolidate them as OEM parts regardless if they are made by GM or a 3rd party for GM.

As to the OEM rotors, I'd expect Brembo to make them as part of the brake kit, but it is also quite possible another 3rd party manufacturers them.

PS Need your help re manual page number pls regarding your last comment, as i cant find anything specific on rotor maintenance recommendations from GM. Other than a burnishing procedure, which i suspect nobody follows (perhaps due to impractical reasons).

Cheers!
