Helmets - Headroom clearance
Hello track fiends
I am looking at getting into some track work with the Camaro and I have a question about helmets. When sitting in the car (I have a sunroof) I feel that I am very close to the headlining, and I am short. Have any of you had issues hitting the helmet on the roof or is it all in my head? My current helmet is a dualsport that I have since found out I cant remove the visor on without removing more, so I am going to need to buy another one. My old helmet I used when I used to track my GTR has been retired. Cheers |

I'm 5'7". I have a sunroof too. I have to lower the seat and move it back. Wish there was more room for sure.

This was a huge issue when I was contemplating sunroof or not. I'm 6'2", so once I saw how little clearance I had in a sunroof camaro (even without a helmet) I knew I was going with no sunroof. Plus I love the roof lines without the sunroof.

I'm 6'2", the car has no sunroof, yet I have to lower the seat quite a bit for the helmet to clear the "ceiling", so based on that and checking headliner contours I imagine a sunroof simply wouldn't work at that height.

I had this issue when I got my car.
I'm 6'4". After many test fittings I found that Arai has the lowest profile helmet in my price range (~$1k). I really liked the Stilo, but it was too tall. I do not have a sunroof. I run the seat all the way down and just fit. The best advice I can give is go find a shop that sells helmets and get several to try on in the car. I took my Arai to the C8 reveal at my dealership so I would know if there were issues. Looks like the C8 with the Competition seats has more headroom.

6'0 with a 32" inseam and I have the seat all the way down and slightly back from where I would prefer it while wearing my Bell Star MIPS helmet in my sunroofless car. I test fit myself in car with a sunroof and my head was 1 finger width from the roof when in driving position so there is no way I would be able to wear a helmet. The sunroof eats up a good 2-3" of headroom which is a shame.

This is the main reason I switched to a race seat. One event driving with the seat not wear I liked it was enough.

Thanks all
I didn't get a choice in the sunroof, with there being less than 500 2018s here in Aus pickings were a bit slim |

What seat base did you use? Was the extra headroom a result of the base allowing you to mount the seat lower, or from the profile of the seat itself? Or both I guess haha

I used they brey Krause bracket, I tried to include sliders but my helmet still hit the roof. So I have a sparco evo seat hard mounted to the floor, but it’s in the right spot and my helmet doesn’t hit. I love it, and with the seat and 6 point harness you don’t move at all.

I’ll take some pics. I put the harness bar from brey krause in. Pretty painless, however there isn’t a whole lot of adjustments like they lead you to believe. It works though, harness is at the correct angle for me.
