Don't get me wrong, I like the 6th Gen, I just think this weight stuff is being overplayed. I'm actually getting sick of hearing about it. 200lbs is not a huge loss.
I stated this in another thread... my thoughts

another way to look at it is.... get your base weight for the new SS... so lets say 200lbs - 3860lbs (crub weight of the current SS) gets you 3660... cars 3000-4000lbs will roughly see 10hp per 100lbs. soo 455hp+20= 475hp... so basically you should have time similar to a current SS running 475hp (at the motor) with this theory. so all in all you're seeing a increase form 426hp to 475hp ... so 39hp increase over the previous gen.

With that said, bolt ons will go further on this platform as well. BUT to put this in perspective... the Camaro is still no a "light weight" by modern standards.. its about 100lbs heavier then the current m3/m4 and is real close to the weight of 2012 boss 302 which is 4 years old at this point (and I bet the new SS will run close to the identical times due to the similar specs as the old boss).

DISCLAIMER: I am not knocking the 6th gen... I am not talking bad about it.

Did GM say that there will be a 200 lb weight loss to the SS version of the Camaro? Honestly I don't know. If they haven't then you will have to wait and see as there may be varied weight lost throughout the trim levels. Ford ran with weight loss as well, in the end the loss was in the ecoboost model and not the GT which actually gained weight.

Yeah, that distracted the hell out of me. I got a feeling this guy had no idea what the 5th gen was, or had.

A lot of time spent talking about the V6s engine noise.

If I jump on my '14 1LS, I get about the same exhaust tone.
That's not why I bought a V6 Camaro.
Price (value) and gas miliage sold me.

Most quotes say at least and more than depending on model. T4 is said to have lost 300.

If you watch the reveal he says the exact words 200lbs model to model.

It's everywhere. If it doesn't turn out they are really retarded. Gonna have some explaining to do.

FYI, according to the Autoblog test drive:

http://www.autoblog.com/2015/05/17/2...e-first-drive/

Though the new car is said to be more than 200 pounds lighter, that's a blanket number that applies to the entire Camaro range. The V6 model is actually about 300 pounds lighter, and that difference is apparent in our back-to-back drives. After all, the 335-horsepower six-cylinder has only 12 more ponies than last year's V6, but it feels much stronger and more capable.

Think about how many reviews &/or test drives each month of all brands these guys do. They get most of the details correct & only did one lap. So it is not like they could edit several runs around the track.

If true...that is freaking amazing in my opinion. Even if its just 250 pounds, that could still put the V6 under 3,500 pounds. LOVE IT.

Here is something to think about: 250 pounds off the base V6 5th gen (3,719 lbs) puts you at 3,469 lbs. Shouldn't be too difficult to get 350 HP out of the 335HP stock LGX with a few bolt ons or a tune.

So...compared to the current L99 SS:
3,910 lbs / 400HP = 9.775 lbs per HP
3,469 lbs / 350P = 9.9 lbs per HP.

I like those stats.

I hope someone gets to press some real world numbers from a production 16 soon (or maybe at camarofest) exciting numbers though. Looking forward to seeing one in person.

As far as 200 lbs... don't all mustang owners have 300 lb wives/girlfriends? That doesn't slow them down too much.

...sorry, couldn't resist

I really think the 300lbs v6 comment is a misprint or mis-understanding. I don't recall GM ever saying that.

GM just said at least 200 pounds less. Could be a greater weight loss depending on model.
