Superchargers and nitrous do not count as those would be power adders.

Cams and valvetrain are not bokt ons to me once that factory seal is cracked open.

I agree. This is how I've always looked at it.

My thoughts are this :
Replacement Factory Long Block.
Things can be "Bolted On"
But not break the seals to change internals.

However I also consider Nitrous and Blowers/Turbos to be Excluded from Bolt Ons.

If the car does not retain the OEM specified parts, then it can not be considered "bolt-on" only. Power adders do not constitute as a "bolt-on". Changing Intake manifold and anything under the valve covers imo is not a bolt-on. The bolt-on term originated as Headers, Exhaust, CAI, UD pullies, Tuning, Porting the stock IM/TB.

Then 15yrs ago or so the internet stipulations started and we have all these different classifications. LBO, MBO, FBO, SBE, Rod bolts only, Re-gapped rings only, 93 only, No hands only.

SBE, what about the cam, since it is in the block... the Mustang guys could do cams and still have "SBE". Just saying. I consider SBE, stock crank, block, rods, pistons. But IMO if I added studs, stronger rod bolts and gapped the rings... or went to total seal rings, it would be IMO again a stock bottom end. Kind of like pulling out the 97 LS1 rod bolts and putting in the 99 much stronger GM bolts, you know the ones that should have come with the engine. Don't beat me up, either way. IMO most of the "SBE" are not....

IMO the intake manifold is a bolt-on. So is a ported stock intake manifold. I could agree about if it touches oil the NOT a bolt-on.

Can I port/mill the factory heads and it still be considered a bolt-on car, since it's the factory heads?

JMO, a "SBE" is an OEM short block. Stock block, crank, rods, pistons, bearings, bolts & gaskets, but you can have an aftermarket valvetrain. Cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers & aftermarket heads. I've never used stock parts on my race cars, everything was aftermarket.

I guarantee that Camaro of TSP that ran 8's does not have a stock valvetrain & they claim it's a SBE.

OK roger that, cam is not part of a SBE, I guess it is mid block...
