The PP1 was designed as Ford's performance version of a base GT, and Chevy responded with the 1LE, the performance version of a base SS. Ford lost that first round badly (as this and numerous other tests have confirmed), and has had to come up with a PP2 version to compete with the 1LE. Chevy go it so right out of the box that no '2LE' is required. The 1LE threatens their coveted, much more expensive GT350. Ford's half-assed first attempt showed their PP1 was just a money-making gimmick. Mustang PP1 owners bought Ford's gimmick.

I mostly agree. I think Ford was trying to give more opportunity for more buyers by offering more choices and related cost brackets for buyers.

Base GT, premium GT, base GT PP1, premium GT PP1, base GT pp2, premium GT PP2.

Camaro 1SS, Camaro 2SS, Camaro 1SS 1LE, Camaro 2SS 1LE.

More choices for the mustang buyer = more buyers due to more price points. Also, some mustang buyers dont want the stiffer riding, more performance oriented PP1/2 mustangs. They just want a supple, cruiser Grand Tourer mustang.

However, buyers should compare the value of what you get at equal price points. The Camaro wins this, especially now with the price increase for the 2018 Mustang.

Mustangs were generally cheaper than the Camaro due to the numerous configurations offered, but not so much anymore.

Chevy didn't 'respond' to the PP1 with the 1LE. It's been a thing for decades. And Ford didn't offer a gimmick. It was a 3.73, brakes, and wheel package that was reasonably priced. These automakers don't obsess over each others' models the way the forums do. They make cars for the market interest to make money. And in this regard Ford has been way more successful. The 1LE is a huge bargain but let's not pretend the Mustang is trash.

The group involved in GM's marketing needs to be let go.

As a fellow 1LE owner i'm well aware of it's history. As others have said the PP1 options should've been standard on the 2018 GT to compete with the SS Camaro and not be a gimmicky option package. One performance pack for 2018 (PP2) is sufficient. And yes, Ford's marketing modus operandi wins them the sales war. They succeeded at accommodating as many driver types as possible with the Mustang GT, with some sacrifice in performance. Comfort, visibility, seat and trunk space, and every day drivability are priorities for many GT owners. The same can be said for Camry owners.

No way. Manufacturers definitely target and respond to each others offerings.
