People always talk about no traction until 50 or 60...I don't get it. I have a blower on my G8 GT, running a bit more boost than the stock kit, intake, exhaust, small cam. Definitely faster than a stock ZL1 (5th gen). 285/30/20" tires and only have 1st gear traction problems from a stop or if I kick it down from about 25 or less. Anything in 2nd gear or higher and it just goes, unless it's cold or wet. Elevation is around 900 here.

A lot of people talk about lack of traction. I think a lot of them are full of crap.
With the proper tire/rim combo, I have no issue with traction and that is running nearly 800RWHP. The tire/rim combo that came with the Gen5 ZL1 was all about style and road course work, which I enjoy too but have a different car for that. The proper tire/rim/driver solves a lot of issues.

Stock ZL1 and an auto, stock tires though, and I have heard the stock goodyears are pretty crappy. That is probably the real issue. Hopefully the new tires on the zl1 are better. I'm doubting it though. It has a very close trap in the 1/4 compared to the Z06, according to GM, but is about 1/2 sec off 0-60 and 1/4 compared to their rating on the Z06. I think that tells you traction just isn't as good.

The difference in weight distribution between the ZL1 and the Corvette is probably to blame for the timing differences (which look like they're concentrated in the launch and 1st gear).

It might never be too much.

The question is will you actually use it? In many cases, the answer will be no.

If you plan to track the car (a real track or 1/4 mile) then I say the more HP the better (if the car and the driver can handle it)

If its street car only, the only way you can use the power (aside from very short lived bursts of power) is by doing something illegal.

Sorry if that makes me sound like a nancy or something, but we all know its the case. Doesn't make me love my SS any less, but I already can't use its full performance. I certainly don't need more. But that's just me.
Spot on! My SS is fantastic. However, it has way more power than can ever be fully realized in almost any public road situation. An SS driven at even 6/10ths, while completely safe in the hands of even a moderately skilled driver, is still going really damn fast on a public road. With great power comes great responsibility. That being said if I could afford a Z06 Vette or a ZL1 I'd likely be tempted to buy one.

Fully loaded Camaro 2ss in the states is about $48,000, in Canada about $60,000!
the base zl1 is about $62,000 - $64, 000 USD. so in Canada I would expect it to be at least $70- $80,000?

Again Canadians on here this IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!

Build any GM vehicle on the .ca and then the .com site. Divide your number and get the GM exchange factor

Then take $62,165 and multiply by that number ... = $69,995

GM won't use a special , or under, or inflated exchange on this one model. They use the same on all GM products.

Hope this helps. It will all be confirmed soon once the GM Canada dealers get their official pricing which by that time should have options too as US will probably see all their option pricing by months end of Sept..

Key thought right there ↑↑↑.

Not everybody can, and unfortunately there are people who can't that still think they can. Until they find out differently, anyway.
