Whipple Dyno Results Should I be Dissappointed?

Hello everyone, I just had my car dyno’d today at New Era Performance. I have 1 7/8 Long Tubes from speed engineering, Rotofab intake, 2.9L supercharger, stock pulley. These are the results I got, 499/542, is the reading different or is there something I’m missing ? Im very confused as to why its so low.

Probably out of fuel by the way it lays over up top.

What do you mean out of fuel? Like low on fuel or not enough fuel going through?

He means that either your low side fuel pressure is dropping, the high side rail pressure is dropping, or your injector pulse width is too long (or some combination of the above).

Adding forced induction to an LT1 without addressing the fuel is a recipe for disaster. When I had a stock LT1 with a Whipple 2.9 I was able to put down 610 WHP with no cam or headers, all because I upgraded the fueling at the same time and added just a splash of E (E30 in that instance). Once I added more E I was able to dial up the power even more with no harm to the stock bottom end. That 2.9 blower carried me to over 900 WHP before I went to the new Whipple 3.0, so you have a lot of room to grow. I suspect that tune needs work too…that’s a pretty rough dyno sheet…. Those headers are notorious for false knock too if my memory serves.

Yes... this looks very similar to where I was 2 years ago

You are going to need to do either a LOT of research on this board, and/or go to a reputable shop/tuner.

Fueling and a good tune is likely your prescription for moar power. I'd wager your current tune is in piston melting territory.

You should be able to get 550-600 whp on 93 octane, and maybe 650-700 on E60+ on an otherwise stock LT1 (with proper fueling and tune).

I thought New Era Performance had a pretty good reputation. What did they tell you as to why it was down on power? Did they give any suggestions?

They did not give me a reason. I was told only this via email when i was concerned and reached out at a later date.

“ yes your car made 500hp. your car makes 375 factory on my dyno so thats about 125hp over stock. might of made a bit more but its also 100* OUTSIDE and the pump not working wasnt helping. so once you fix the issues itll make more as it was running real hot today.@

Hello, I doubt it’s piston territory melting wise, as my engine and tranny are healthy. My car dynod at 375whp stock, I was told by New Eta that it was 100+ degrees out which it was and my supercharger pump wasnt working. My whipple was 170-180 degrees on the dyno cus of the pump. I ended up fixing it. He said i got a 125 ho gain which i did, but i see others on this forum same mods and no fueling upgrades at 530-550whp. New Era knoes their stuff on 6th gens, he said i should have more power when supercharger is chilled and in cooler weather conditions. But i still wanted to see at least 530 and i wouldve been happy.

The intercooler pump is critical so having that repaired will help immensely.

Sounds reasonable. What psi is that running? Timing was probably getting pulled at 170 degrees if thats the IATs. So i could believe 530 pretty easy in cooler weather and everything working.
