made a mistake at the 1/4 mile track last night
so I iced down the supercharger as soon as I got to the track, and my buddy was next to me in his hellcat pulling the stock air filter, so I thought "what could it hurt" so I finally get up to the lanes, do a burnout (side note - anyone else have issues with the line lock not letting go when you hit the 2 buttons?). anywho, little too hot of a burnout netted me a horrible 1.89 60ft (yes I am on drag radials) and a total time of 12.24@117
So I put the factory paper filter back in and the next pass was a 1.72 60ft and 11.36@123.8. DA was 1800. A couple weeks ago I ran a 11.31@124. I feel like my times are a little slow compared to what they should be? There was another guy at the track with a ZL1 and he said his best pass to date with drag radial was 11.37. are the 10.X passes hero passes or am I doing something wrong? track mode, double tap traction control, set to race, and no launch control (I seem to run faster without it). thoughts? Also is there a way to turn on the fans and cooler pump while the car is off? the hellcat has a programmer that plugs into the usb basically giving it some of the demon options to do such things so I am curious if we have any solutions to cool it down quicker between passes. thanks in advance for any input. I know this is drag racing related, but it's also ZL1 specific I think. |

No double tap traction control. That is to enter PTM mode. Do a 5-7 second hold of the traction control button and you will see both lights illuminate. The stabilitrak light will be the one that takes 5-7 seconds. Proceed then to do everything like you stated above. No launch control, no PTM. Put the exhaust into "Track" via the setting screen and run suspension in "Sport" via the console button. Don't use the paddles. Hope this helps!

Turn everything off by holding TC button until both lights are on like stated or put the car in Sport mode and double tap the TC button. Either way the car should run the best times. I also separate the exhaust and suspension from the drive mode and keep exhaust in track and suspension in tour. The single TC tap should work fine too for making the pass, but SC could possibly interrupt your burnout if the car gets too sideways. If you can get low 1.7 60s then the only other thing you need is a nice low DA. The cooler the air, the better. My car has ran as low as 123 in hot humid air and as high as 129.5 in 32 degree air.
As for launch control, it releases the brakes too slow for my liking. You'll do 2 to 3 seconds longer burnout than you want if you expect the car to rollout as soon as you hit the buttons.

Yeah my line lock is the same way. Not sure why it never lets go early when I want it to. I usually end up stuck with the ebrake on.

Dont ever remove an air filter on a car with a mass aut meter. Turbulence in the airflow can cause poor readings.

Ice on a supercharger is a bad idea. The tolerances are really tight. Shrinking the outside metal while the inside metal is expanded is a recipe for an early failure.

You must have been at Gateway last night. Good pass and we all learn the things not to do after we do the wrong thing. You made it work, cool air will net you a very low 11.

I will try the other settings you all suggested, I appreciate all of the advice! any thoughts on getting the coolant pump and fans to run when the car is off without hacking up the harness? |

You definitely want to put the suspension in Tour....makes a big difference with the the way the car sits back!

I think the pump relay is in the underhood fuse box, so that may not be too bad to hack something together without having to cut a harness. Alternatively you could make an inline harness that plugs between the existing harness and pump. The pump works simply with a 12v wire and ground. The fans are pulse with modulated, so you'll need a PWM contoller of some sort for those. There is a round connector above the radiator that you might be able to tap into. I've attempted to use HP tuners to manually turn on the fans, no luck there. A GM Tech 2 device would probably work though.
