Don't be too quick to judge - 1SS Speakers

When I picked up my 1SS from the dealer, my sales person was doing the walk through showing me all the buttons and we tried everything out, my heart sank when we turned the radio on. It sounded truly awful. No bass response at all, muddy highs, muffled mids. I had forgotten all my younger years' experience of "breaking in" speakers. After only a few hours of radio play, the sound got 100% better. As the speakers get more broken in they sound fine. (Fine for the standard system, if you're looking for a rolling concert hall, you'll want the upgraded system).

This is why I got the 2LT. I'm sure the standard system is fine. But, for me I just wanted something with more uuuummmmmfffffffffff !!!!
I've had the standard 6-speaker setting with my 2014 Impala and its okay, nothing to write home about.............
But for this car, my dream car, I wanted all the bells and whistles..........

not sure what the 'stock' system is(generic GM?), but definitely go Bose.

This is true.

I would've gone with the upgrade in my 1SS if it was an option, but it wasn't, so base speakers it is. That said, I've heard a few reviews from members here say the base system isn't bad at all, and one person even said it might have been comparable or on par with the BA system in the 5th gen.

If it is...I'll be happy with it. If not...I'll consider a sub at some point.

Every opinion I've read about the upgraded BOSE option is very positive.

I had the opportunity to drive a fully loaded 2015 2SS Convertible for a week this fall... that system would support a block party. This is nothing compared to that, but in my opinion that one was a bit of overkill. I can say after driving my car for over 5 hours today, it sounds plenty good for me. I could see someone possibly wanting to add a small sub. Not that it needs that much more bass, but it would be good to filter out some of the low range going to the door speakers to prevent it from developing rattles. I'm not overly confident my early build is going to survive the -20 degree winters with the horrible roads around here without developing a few rattles.
