How are some of you linked to OnStar already

I see some of you guys have a C6 on the way and have GPS on it. I called Onstar to activate the system on my 2016 that is in transit and they said i needed to press the blue button in the car, because they need a live feed from the car to activate...

Getting impatient since my Mosaic Black Metallic is "still on its way to my dealer" i was told to expect it before Thanksgiving.. :(

You get an account when you prchase car, you dont have to push blue button, some dealers are willing to call onstar and activate it for you without purchasing. I purchased my car but i wish i didnt because i can drive to dc npw and just buy one of the lot.

They said that to me to but that is incorrect.
I had dealer activate account. then I called onstar, gave them my info and a day later downloaded app and signed in and it shows up.
Another week later, it failed to locate the car. I called on star and they said I would need to be inside and push the button.
I said it worked before.
They couldn't get it located either.
another week later it shows up in a slightly different location.
What this means is that is was inside a building (maybe even battery disconnected to perform whatever needed fixing). Then off course it can't be located.
Now it moved from Troy to Hamtramck plant awaiting railcar.
It is so hard not to look at the damn map every few hours to see if it moved.
I keep telling myself that instead of waiting, I should try to enjoy the last few days with my old car, which I still love very much, as I will never see her again soon.
It's still a fantastic car.

Yeah, you have to press the button and listen to their speil.
Whatever you do DO NOT give them your card number at that time..
Go through the freebie and decide from there and if you want to keep it, send them a check.
Once activated and "used" once, you get all the base functions for free for 5 years. (they told me five, some people are saying three).

There is a new "Basic" plan that OnStar now has that is free for 5 years, you can use the Mobile app to unlock/lock the car, remote start, diagnostics, etc...the simple basics features are now included for 5 years. 6 Months full access to everything including navigation.

note: that are some downsides to starting Onstar early.

the dealer needs to retail the car in the computer and when he does, your warranty is ticking, so if you engage it early, you're gonna have 2 -3 weeks LESS that the std warranty. Also know dealer is going to retail the car in the system with you complete all the paperwork and making it yours. That means you are going to have a hellvuva time trying to get out of the deal, if the car has delivery problems or something you don't like, like terrible paint. You own it.

My dealer already has my check for the car - paid in full. Thats what a warranty is for, they will fix EVERYTHING thats broken.

Good for you, just pointing out to others the warranty is ticking early, most dealers don't tell you that.

When you buy all you have to do is call onstar to get your account #. Then register on there website and download the app on your phone. It takes 24-48 hrs for the app to update with your car info

The only thing your dealer needs to do is get you an onstar account setup, my dealer did this via some gm onstar internal website and before i left i asked him to call onstar and give me my account number. Thats is all i needed from my dealer. Also call onstar and set up an 4 digit pin with them.
