There seems to be a misconception here. This piece of foam isn't some sort of filter for air that is actually flowing into the engine this is simply a tube for intake noise to resonate through. It appears as though the original design was to not have any foam in it, but they found the A8 cars with cylinder deactivation to make unpleasant sounds when switched into 4 cylinder mode. Seems to me that the foam was just the cheapest fix to muffle those sounds out.

Pulling this foam in no way puts the engine in danger. Its simply a way to increase induction noise. No way will this void your warranty!

Yeah.
I think Mister Will did a tube delete, not the simple foam removal.
They would, or might, notice the tube delete, but would never notice the foam.

Yes, I was talking about the entire sound tube. The post I was referring to appeared to be talking about the entire sound tube.

Take the foam out and back seat down to improve PDR sound. I'll have to try this

Do you know if this could also be done to the Corvette Stingray?

Question

Did it on my new '16 Camaro SS manual transmission, but only hear the increased exhaust noise from removing the NPP fuse. No noise increase from the engine compartment.

Nope, I was only referring to the foam within.

100% this.

If you want to hear what an angry V8 really sounds like, remove your sound tube, lay flat your back seat and drive around with the windows down.
