Why on earth would anyone buy a Model 3 when Bolts will be here in 2 months?

I need some excitement and noise for my car but the wife drives a volt. She loves it. We have only put a few tanks of gas in it in 3 years and haven't had any trouble with it. It is quiet, smooth and trouble free.
I wouldn't buy a pure ev if it is your only car. I wouldn't buy a model 3 when you can get a bolt any day now. I would bet on the bolt being rated higher for reliability once they are both out. Gm and ford are making some great cars these days. |

Nah. Way too expensive as a daily driver. I daily a 13 year old M5 or my truck. And either one can be taken on a 7-9 hour round trip in a day to visit our kids at college. Tesla not so much.

Nope.
Electric cars are the future, but they aren't advanced enough. Why would I want to plug in and charge for an hour when I can just fill up a gas tank in 2 minutes. Plus like they said before me, I'd rather hear the motor roar, actually drive it rather than just push a button for "insane mode" or whatever it is they have. The good thing is when all the sheep start buying electric cars just like they herd around for the newest iPhones, the price of gas will only go down for us gas guzzlers

Looks are, of course, subjective. I think out of the sedans offered today, the S and eventual 3 are very attractive looking. Are they still just sedans? Yes, but they aren't the most boring designs I've ever seen. I personally like the current generation Mustang over the camaro looks wise. Performance wise, the Camaro is the no brainer though. I have always bought cars more so based on the performance value and less so on looks. I've had a Neon SRT-4 and Caliber SRT4 and they aren't lookers in most people's eyes but they sure as hell offered a lot of bang for the buck performance wise.
After my Caliber, I am finally realizing it might be better to have something a little more civilized but still fun for my daily driver. I must be getting older. ☺️ I admit I am. I think the newer muscle cars would offer plenty of creature comforts and drive very nicely as a daily. But then I think about the instant silent torque offered by electric and that sounds very appealing too. Elon has already said ludicrous mode will be offered in the 3 (not cheap of course), but even a low-mid 4 second to 60 would be plenty respectible in a daily driver. I'm thinking the 3 could be pretty tossable too given it should be a lot lighter than the S and smaller in size. The batteries in the floor really help the center of gravity. Throw on some sticky tires and maybe upgrade the suspension and it could be a rocket of a car that turns pretty good too. The only thing missing is the beautiful noise (guess we could pipe some fake engine noise in like Ford and BMW have done ☺️) and rowing the gears manually. My daily now is an auto and I really do miss the shifting even driving in a city. This is all, of course, speculative at this point. I think the model 3 has the potential to be a huge turning point from gas to electric. The biggest obstacle right now though is probably low oil prices. And as already mentioned, as more people drive electric that will probably keep gas cheaper which of course works against the transition. It will be a long time before we see ICE's go extinct. |

Just picked up a Volt last Saturday...pretty impressed by it, but it isn't a replacement for wanting a Camaro (ZL1 for me).
I love not using a single drop of gas getting to and from work, and the instant torque (246 lb ft) is pretty fun. And it's actually a nice looking car, much better than any other electric outside of tesla. Btw, all that said, after $11,900 in tax credits an LT is a $20,000 car, you won't drive a better car for the money, IMO. Last edited by DenverTaco07; 10-22-2016 at 12:59 AM. |

Looked at a model 3, but with a 2017 release date, day 1 pre-order probably taking up all of the 2018 factory capacity, and the rest of the pre-orders likely taking factory capacity for 2019 (ignoring tesla s terrible track record for putting out vehicles on timeline) I'll be nearly payed off on the camaro. If the model three has a ludicrous model, with a 0-60 in the 4s timeliness and the same trick suspension as the model s/x it'd be a fun grocery getter
