Camaro vs Mustang models
So my friend and I were having a debate about which model of the camaro should be compared to the mustang models (he's a ford guy).
Camaro LTs vs base Mustang V6 < etc. Camaro SS vs Mustang GT ? (or should it be the GT 350?) Camaro ZL1 vs GT350 or Whatever Ford has contract with (Shelby, SVT, etc)? Basically he was saying the SS should be compared with the GT 350 (since there are no 500s) and I told him most of the articles and video I saw always compared the SS to the GT. He disagreed but I think he mostly mad because I got rid of my Mustang GT and bought a camaro. In my opinion the camaro is an all around better performing car |

1LE to GT350 is the correct comparison in this case. The current GT is too under-powered for it to be a fair comparison between it and a SS.

The GT and SS are still a comparable. When the GT outshined the 5th Gen SS, we took it in stride and got our butts handed to us at the drag strip. LOL Now, it's the other way around.

Fair or not this is the way it goes
Camaro 2.0T Vs Mustang V6 Camaro V6 Vs Mustang Ecoboost Camaro SS VS Mustang GT Camaro ZL1 Vs Rumored GT500 Rumored Z/28 VS GT350 Yes the camaro is the better performer, but that is the way the models would break down |

And no...you can't switch it around and go "but Ford made the V6 base etc etc". |

But if I wanted to get more specific I'd add: Camaro 1LE vs. GT350 Camaro Z/28 vs. GT350R The fact that your buddy says its the SS vs the GT350 is a little funny. A $38K car versus a $57K car minimum. Sure makes the Chevy look good.

The 1LE would line up against the GT-PP. Yes it is no contest to which one is the better performer but if you are breaking it down by exactly what lines up with what its 1LE and GT PP. both are optional performance packages for the V-8 Model. |

You can take a 1SS and option it out to compete against the GT350. And it still would be a lot cheaper. Not saying my car is but my 1SS came from the Factory with 6 pistons Brembos and bigger performance calipers, Upgraded suspension , Dual mode exhaust and other goodies. You can easily take a 1SS to the track with a little factory upgrades and it would perform well. The new 16/17 SS is an odd car because GM made it so good that its in the upper tear performance bracket for track use way above the Mustang GT and almost near the higher performing cars.

That's what makes the V6 1LE to Mustang GT comp more viable than the SS comparison. Drag race goes to the GT by a few cars with both in the low half of 13 seconds, and the road course goes to the v61le (VIR LL) by over a second.

I've read several threads here where people ask what they should choose, V6 camaro VS V8 mustang...and virtually everyone save for a few camaro fanboys recommend the V8. To say that they are within a few car lengths of each-other is asinine. As for the road coarse, I've yet to see any comparison with the same drivers on the same day comparing the 1le V6 camaro to the V8 mustang. Could it be a second quicker around VIR? Sure it could. The mustang could be 3 seconds quicker...who knows for sure. My guess is the 1le is easier to drive at it's limits, having far superior tires and a track duty suspension. I'm adding an edit here. While I believe some people may cross shop a V6 camaro to a base V8 mustang based solely on price, I don't believe the opposite to be true. That doesn't mean the performance of the two vehicles is even remotely close, but rather that the V6 camaro is in such a higher price point that the allure of buying an american icon with a V8 for nearly the same price is huge. With that said, for the majority...camaro people are going to buy a camaro, and mustang people are going to buy a mustang. Last edited by Mustang Fanboy; 10-07-2016 at 05:55 AM. |
