CA Supercharged Cam Smog
OK guys/gals I'm specifically asking about CA smog, but anyone certainly can chime in.
I want to know who's supercharged/turbo'd with or w/o a cam (specs mainly duration @ .050 ), LSA etc.) and if you are able to pass smog. Mainly sniffer but visual test is valid also. I'm interested in any FI combo really. I want to cam the motor, and it'll be whipple charged (will purchase tomorrow ) What else...cats, no cats, HF cats, hogged out cats, how does it idle etc. Thanks in advance! |

If you are wanting to be "legal", it must remain as it comes from the SC manufacturer to maintain C.A.R.B certification. I'm not sure if Whipple has been given their exemption or not, so you may want to verify.
Cam's are fairly easy to get away with as long as the tune is right. If you have a good tuner, he will be able to keep you legal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Correct. Legally speaking the supercharger must be installed as supplied by the manufacturer and the supplied tune (which is a major part of the EO#) must be untouched to be valid. No custom tuning also means that the stock air box, headers, catalytic converters, camshaft, throttle body, etc. must remain in use and unmodified.

Visually Im not too worried about it. The main thing was how modified can you get and still pass the sniffer.

You don't have to smog it until your 6th year and when that comes up just pay $100-300 to have it passed, lol. Also, I read somewhere on here where they changed smog testing to only be OBDII with no more sniffer test. Don't know if it passed yet or what cars are included though.

Starting next January, any cars newer then 2000 will not have to do a sniffer test.
I was told that the emissions codes can be disabled in the tune, but I'm not sure if that is accurate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
