So I'm suppose to turn off my AC to lessen the demand on the grid but plug in my EV all night to charge for the next morning... Also, the power in my town has been going out alot the last couple months, how do I charge my car ?

Was there any foresight whatsoever into going all electric ??

There may be high demand for EV's right now but its because its the new cool thing to do. That will blow over and then these manufacters are in real trouble. Just my thought.

Have a read of how the Interstate highway system was paid for.

Fuel taxes pay for highway maintenance and expansion of existing roads, not for building new ones.

Yeah, but why buy this is you can buy a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and know it will run for 200,000 miles and better resale value?

Ironically, my roommate and I each ordered cars at our local dealership on the same day. He had always planned to mod his so he ordered a base car, no options, white with red cloth interior. $24,995 before tax and license. I ordered a two-tone blue with leather interior, power windows and locks, air, and whatever else. My car came in in like 6 - 8 weeks. Months after ordering his car and continuously being told it had not been placed in build schedule, he changed his order to include power windows and locks and his car came in in about 3 weeks. We later learned that GM had already exceeded the number of cars it intended to build with roll-up windows. For 1985 power windows were made standard and the base price went way up.

Fast forward to 2019. GM introduced C8 Corvette with a long run-up saying that the new Corvette would be priced under $60,000. The C8 launched at $59,995 before tax and license. For 2021 the base price went way up. Good luck finding a base car, no options. Expect similar treatment with Equinox EV. There will likely be a few unicorn base / no options units built at $29,995 before tax and license.
An even more time honored marketing strategy, advertising something that isn't actually available except on the options list. The C8 example just proves it still works.

I expect the "$30k" Equinox EV to be a combination of both being sold at a loss and being nearly impossible to actually buy.

I’m a mechanical contractor and can tell you with great certainty that the grid cannot support anywhere near 30% electric vehicle saturation, never mind 100%. On top of that, the gov has literally opened up a firehose flood of money to convert homes over to heat pumps and the strain on the grid will be beyond substantial. Adding electric heat and hot water (vs natural gas) and a vehicle charger will double the typical homes peak power draw. Good luck lol…

Yup. Nobody gets that. Even without EV going renewables and idling coal plants we are seeing strains. I see electric prices easily doubling. Any cost savings between gas/electric go out the window.

It’s gonna be wild.
I just bought a cheap $200 charger and got a two way cord for my dryer outlet for $60. No way i was gonna pay to have a new breaker box installed. Charges at 12mph and that is more than i need since i drive 50 miles a week. If gas goes below sub $3 a gal for prem i will get a used C8 if prices ever get back to normal.

Thank you for the correction. Only thing is last year our illustrious congress got our wise President to sign a huge infrastructure spending bill. In it, is billions to tear down racist highways. Do a google search if you don’t believe it.
It would have been TOTALLY appropriate to instead invest in new Electric power plants to build out our infrastructure….but we didn’t….
But speaking of transportation, we will have to drive our cars more, because we forced pilots out of their jobs over a vaccine that was not proven safe….
But I’m just a bitter man, and I digress.
I’m all for new technology…..but slow down and do it right….
A school kid can see that we need more power plants….but they don’t run on fairy dust…..

Oh I’m sure it’ll be a high HP Tesla Plaid competitor. *yawn*.

Shitty for track guys. But challenger was never great at that anyways so I guess it’s no big deal. Now instead of a boat it’ll be a land barge. lol
