Looking for Guidance if You Are in the Same Position

Fellow Owners - I am the proud owner of a 2017 2SS 50th Anniversary coupe with less than 500 miles on the odometer. it has never seen rain or snow and is stored in a temperature/humidity-controlled garage. As of late I have had the urge to install a cold air intake, Stainless Works headers / exhaust and have it tuned. Internally I am struggling as to if I do this to possible the lowest mileage 50th anniversary car out there. Could I please get your thoughts.

I doubt it’s the lowest mileage 50th, since some were bought and not driven. It’s your car, so do what makes you happy.

I would keep the car basically stock but put a CAI intake on it. Cold Air Inductions has a nice one or RotoFab intake that works with the factory tune. Your 2017 50th anniversary edition is sort of rare with just 500 miles and might retain its value when the Camaro stops production.

If this is a car you are going to continue to hardly ever drive, and hope it's worth something someday, I wouldn't touch it. Why bother spending the $$ for a car you barely drive? Plus, it WILL be worth more money down the road if it is unmodified. Even today it's worth more unmodified. The pool of buyers for modified cars is much smaller than the majority who look for "clean CarFaxes" and avoid cars that may have issues caused by mods. A GM CAI (with GM tune), and cosmetic stuff that can always be undone will not devalue it, so you could do those things and keep the OEM parts, but a tune or anything requiring a tune will devalue the car as any type of "collector" car later on. Just look at auction sales; "numbers matching" and "survivor" cars always go for more than even partially modified similar models.

If you will never drive it, why bother?

If you will drive it and you should drive the hell out of it, go for it. You can always reverse the mods should you want.

And it is a car. Enjoy it.

I have a 2023 ZL1 and other than a CAI and small cosmetic things(like blacked out side markers lights etc) mine is staying stock for the reasons mentioned above by TP2SS and LT4Greg. A "stock" car will bring more money later down the road than cars that have been modified(see Mecum and Barrett-Jackson..cars that are original bring WAAY more money)Not to mention, I'm reading and seeing ALOT of people having issues after modifying so to me it's not worth it. Why mess with a good thing? You know? I'm probably in the minority but that is EXACTLY why I have never or WILL never buy a sports car that someone has modified. Too many risks involved! Sounds like a nice car you have, don't ruin it!

I didn't buy my Camaro to be an investment, there are much better things to sink your money into to make money. Modify your car, drive it, and enjoy what the car was made to do. It's a stock production line Camaro with some badging and embroidery...

Drive the car first for a few thousand miles and then install whatever you'd like on it. No reason to purchase a car and just look at it.

What ever you do to it, keep the stock parts. You can always put it back to stock if it’s not that wild of a build.

Drive it, your wasting a nice car and I don't think its going to be a collector car in the future. Mod or leave it stock but don't just let it sit.

Cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, and generally make terrible investments. Let me do some napkin math and explain.

Here is an example of a very rare Camaro that old recently, a 1997 30th anniversary with low miles https://carsandbids.com/auctions/30l...ersary-edition, it sold for 32k. Which for a 4th gen F-body is big money, but looking at the pictures they paid 42k!!! So even though its an extremely rare and well kept car, they lost 10k in value, not to mention spending 42k in 1997 would have been the equivalent of spending 78k in todays money. Only a handful of cars ever will beat inflation and or say the s&p 500 index. Its best to enjoy the car as it was meant to be used.

only 500 miles, IMO its now becoming a portfolio, not a car

don't touch it, leave it 100% stock
