Looked at a 2017 1LE - Impressed
I ran across a 2017 1LE this weekend and was really impressed with the car. Given this is a Z/28 forum I was wondering if any of you had ever owned/driven or even considered a 6th Gen 1LE (or bought one) and what your impressions of the car were?

I checked one out at a local dealership. My observations: - Cool technology - Great engine - Meh design - Way too small interior Verdict: I'll buy a Corvette Grand Sport or Z06 instead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I looked at the Gen6, but, my Z/28 is a street car and I occasionally use my back seat and I use my trunk a lot.. I love the big trunk of the Gen5. I also like having a compact spare in the trunk of my Z/28... Basically, the Gen6 is too small for me..., but, it is really nice.

I think the Gen 6 looks great and the interior isn't too bad. My 10 year old states that the rear seat felt more confortable in the Gen 6 at the car show versus my current Z/28.

I looked at a Ashen Grey ZL1 this weekend - the interior is a big upgrade in fit and finish to my Z/28. I am not a fan of the front of that car, but overall it is a nice looking package.
I would love to have the nicer interior finish on my Z - but overall I like what I have and what I saw would not make me inclined to change my mind. |

I was looking really hard at a new 1LE. I do think it looks nice and there is no denying technology has advanced, but it didn't give me that visceral feeling that my Z/28 does. I was also drawn to the pure rawness of the Z/28. I don't think you can go wrong with a new 1LE but in the end for me it was no contest, Z/28 all the way.

The 1LE is a fine car, no doubt about that. But to me, you can't replace and completely badass looking, running and handling car, with a fine car. It makes zero sense.

It's about as quick as our Z/28 stock, so that's a wash. The consumables on the track are a bit less money on the 1LE and the LT1 is a decent power plant to build upon. The LS7, CCM brakes and DSSV suspension makes our car really unique.

The Z/28 is everything I ever wanted in a car:
1. Analog (Radio, A/C) 2. Comfortable Seats 3. Race Suspension 4. Manual, N/A 427 Done. Perfection. (No need to discuss 2017 ZL1) Last edited by z28monster; 04-17-2017 at 08:46 PM. |

There are lots of ways to snag a more "refined" performance car than the Z28, but a more gnarley one: Doubtful! I traded my 2016 Stingray for my Z car after a test drive that transported me back to a time when muscle cars assaulted the senses with raw power. I love my Z car right down to the cheap looking interior for many reasons, but the journey to a time when cars had a menacing personality has to top the list.

Last weekend I was out in the Z and can't say I have more fun in any car than this one. Just puts a smile on your face and you don't want to get out!
All the analog and throwback qualities mentioned above make this car an instant classic and with so few built it will be one you are glad you have 20 years from now. It will be hard to duplicate this type of car in the future with all the Fed. regs and requirements for so many more nannies! There will be faster, more refined cars, but not likely too many that will be more "fun" to drive and that is what it is all about! |
