Convertible Issue

1st issue with my vert. The plastic cover that covers the top's mechanism will not close all of the way. I will make an appointment with a dealer's service department. Anyone else seen this issue?

I was asked to post what it should look like. Passenger side works fine. Driver side has an issue.

I noticed on mine that one side (the passengers) was not as smooth as the other so I put some white lithium grease in the groves and worked it manually back and forth a few times. Now it is smooth as silk. It is a heavy duty plastic on metal kind of deal and needs that lube to avoid binding.

If you look closely, it seems that the factory didn't put quite enough lube on there to begin with.

Thanks. I think mine has something misaligned because it I work it to close, it does not want to push back. I will have the dealer left ok at it and post what they find.

Is that part sensitive enough where it would push down if someone sat or leaned on it? I'm trying to get educated before mine gets here.

As a matter of fact, I was leaning into the backseat from outside the car, with the top down and inadvertently rested my hand on it and it did go down about half an inch and out of track.

I managed to manipulate it back into position.

These flaps appear to be subject to variations in build clearance. On my car the one on the drivers side operates very smoothly while on the other side it is a tighter fit. That is why I lubed both to make sure they don't bind.

Shirt answer - yes. It is plastic and fragile (relatively).

I wish I had known before, But I think I have something not lining up correctly in the mech too.

The passenger side cover on mine got jammed a while back and I was able to carefully work it back into the track. It's been fine ever since then.

Same issue here

My driver side has been doing the exact same thing. I haven't taken it in yet since it's not critical. Was your dealer able to fix easily?

My driver side sticks also. But all I have to do is push on it lightly and it closes. Will get it looked at when I take it in for service or another issue.

Same issue with mine on the passenger side.
Putting the top back up makes some noise and will not go in the track properly without some help. Will be making an appointment at the dealer

Be careful with those covers. My daughter was sitting in the back and leaned on the cover. I didn't notice it was pushed ajar before putting the top back up. If those are pushed down or not flush before closing the top, the mechanism will bind and parts break. Mine broke the metal hinge that the door attaches to along with bending the attachment point. Dealer replaced the parts and all is well now...just something to watch. Having lithium grease on those moving parts certainly is a good idea for maintenance and prevention as well. I do really like how the top works and folds in with the hard cover to look so clean compared to Gen 5s as well as the Mustangs.

I just did that today, I kind of just forced the gap open a little more with my bear hand and just popped it back up with a little force. Works perfectly now.
