Competitive Driving Mode

Guys:

Clear something up for me. I'll be taking the car to the track soon and want to take everything off (TC, Stabilitrak). The manual says to take those off, press and hold the TCS button.

Later in the manual, it says to take those off, but to be in competitive driving mode, to hit the TCS button twice.

So are there two different modes? TC and Stabilitrak off with no competitive driving mode and TC and Stabilitrak off with competitive driving mode?

Thank you

Crush

If you hold TCS for 5 seconds it will turn off pretty much all nannies. If you use competitive mode stabilitrak will intervene if the car gets loose side to side.

I like competitive mode. It gives enough to have some fun and kick the tail out some without getting to the point of no return. I usually only turn everything off if I'm in an open area.

So, the consensus is holding the TC button for about 5-10 seconds to shut everything off

The manual is slightly confusing..

Thanks

Competitive mode is different from performance shift active, which kicks in at 40 mph when you floor it or quickly push the pedal all the way down and let go. It downshifts and holds the gear. Also has to be in sport or track.

The screen displays “Competive Mode Activated” or something like that when I get on it hard & does just what you said. Otherwise I have the selective modes through the TC button (Wet, Dry, Track1, etc)

i think this is the case in tour mode. in sport mode, double tap, i dont think anything intervenes.

the car will do mustang week things from second gear @ 50 in sport mode this time of year.

I don't believe this is correct. Stabilitrak Competitive Mode (double-tap on mode switch in Sport or Track--not available in Tour or Snow/Ice). Will result in turning off (completely) Traction Control and reducing the amount of Stabilitrak. Both icons will illuminate in the dash.

As mentioned above, this is a separate feature from "Performance Shift Active" which will appear in the DIC upon rapid acceleration (had not heard about the 40 mph threshold before--will need to check that out!).

i know this much...

my m6 bolt on/ethanol car - flooring it in 2nd gear @ 50

tour - tcs light on solid = some controllable tire spin while the stabilitrak light flashes. the light will continue to flash pretty much all the way through 2nd and part of 3rd

sport competitive - both lights on solid. floor the car @ 50 in 2nd and it immediately snaps, changes lanes, and tries to kill me. both lights stay solid and stabilitrak does not flash

there is a very noticeable difference in how the car behaves. this is basically any temp under 75*. i don't floor it if it's under 55*
