Tire Configuration

I understand wider is better traction and narrower is better turn radius, but how exactly do you find the happy median so the back has enough traction and the front has great turning abilities?

Current Set-up:
Tires: Front (245/40/20) / Rear (275/35/20)

Rims: Front (20x9") / Rear (20x10")

- Thinking of going up on the rear wheels to the max allowed at 285's with the front at either 255 or 265 or possibly even going down near the lowest allowed at 235? Not entirely sure how to find the perfect balance between turning ability and traction.

- Also, what aspect ratio would I need to match when changing tires?
The current set-up on the front is 27.72" and rear is 27.58" - do I need to make sure the new tires have the exact same height in aspect ratio or the same difference of 0.14" between the front and rear tires to avoid random ABS alerts or other issues?

10mm changes will not matter much.

Edited the thread with better clarity asking the two main questions I'm looking to answer.

Asking here is just going to get you a lot of opinion, some facts, and some wrong information. That's just the way forums work. I would much rather email or p.m. somebody like paul at PK auto design who knows this stuff: ask him. He has posts all over the wheel section here.

You do not want narrower front tires if you want your car to turn better...

Been working with Paul this week. I am getting 20x10 et 23 up front and 20x10.5 et 35 in the rear. I will wrap them in 285/30/20 and 305/30/20 respectively. (continentals) Plan on getting the BMR lowering springs also. I suspect my camaro will handle much better......and look better.

Why not go thicker in the rear if your back rims allow? Any specific reason? I see you maxed out on the front tires as 10" rims can only accept max of 285 I believe, right?

Well...been looking at 275/35/30 and 295/35/30 also. In discussion with PK auto....with the lowering kit....those are the two sets of recommended sizes. When you look at the tire dimensions, aesthetically, I want symmetrical alignment also....and I do not want rubbing/hacking/modifying. Only mod is moving the wire harness in the rear wheel well.

I'm getting stance SF07's deep concave and the 11 inch will not cut to 43 offset, so going with the 10.5 with 35 offset in the rear.

I think that setup....(285/30's and 305/30's) with the lowering kit will look pretty good, I'll post pics.

I could do the 35's in the rear, and keep the 30's up front, but with the dimensional tire size difference, it would look a little awkward.

Matching the same tire type/brand and sizes has been difficult also!!!!

That seems like a nice set-up, tell me what you think about this:

20x9 Front Rim
20x10 Rear Rim

265/35/20 Front Tire
305/30/20 Rear Tire

You suspect this will fit well without any issues and handle just as well for performance?

305's on 10 wide should work....might make it look a little fat.

From stock....it will feel and handle way better. That is very similar to stock setup but bigger.
I am not sure of the offsets for the rims though....

Scratch the set-up, I think I only have three real options

Rims: 20x9 +35 / 20x10 +35

Pilot Sport 4S
255/40/20
295/35/20

Pilot Sport 4S
265/40/20
295/35/20

Sport Cup 2
285/35/20
255/40/20

Which would you go with out of those three and any specific reason why?

I would look at each one of those tire dimensions for comparison. Michelin will have it on their website. I would try and find pics with those wheel sizes/tire sizes.

I think they should all fit....

You only have these options because that's the only rims you have? or because that's the only tires you want to use?

I'm honestly looking for the best performance I can get out of street-legal use and it seems these two Michelin tires are top-rated amongst all brands, so I decided I'd just stick with the best.

Yes, they'll all fit, but I don't know which set-up would provide the best performance/handling or if it even makes a difference?

This gives a good visualization of how different sizes compare.
