My 2017 manual says dexos1 is ok, but that's because dexos2 didn't exist at the time.

Well that proves my point. We have the same LT engine. GM just reupped their Dexos pyramid scheme in 2019 with the oil companies to make them purchase the new Dexos 2 label.

Well for anyone that cares the Royal Purple API oils do not contain the Synerlec additive any longer. I have verified with an RP rep.

When I started using RP oil years ago the API oils did have the additive in them and I could tell the difference. The alternative is to go with the HPS (with Synerlec) product but the only choice is in a 10W-40 or 5W-30. Don't know why they wouldn't offer it in 0W-40.

So has anyone ran the HPS in their LT engine?

if you are not worried about your warranty put what ever you want to in it. otherwise put dexos rated oil at GM specified weight. Pick one

The Royal Purple HPS line does not have a 0W-40. They do have a 5W-30 and a 10W-40 so based on reading my owners manual I can run 5W-30 for street use. That's probably what I'll go with. The car is only ran on the weekends and I don't hammer on it all the time so I think the 30 weight oil like you run will be ok for our exact same engine.

I misunderstood your original post... you prefer Royal Purple and were looking for a recommendation on which RP to use. Despite it not being a Dexos 1/2 oil for warranty, and not being 0w40 or 5w40 which is what GM engineers recommend for all LT4s now, you're going to use the RP 5w30 and risk warranty coverage should an oil lubricated part of your motor fails--crank, rods, pistons, cams etc.

Other oils like Amsoil and Motul have a strong following. Can you tell me why you're willing to risk your warranty for RP? Is it proven to have superior wear protection or something similar, or are you sponsored or other mfr deal for free RP? I used to have a Lucas Oil sponsorship and milked that for a ton of free high ZDDP synthetic racing oil, theirs was blue not purple but reminded me of RP.

I've been running RP lubricants in my vehicles for over 20 years and they haven't grenaded one part yet. RP gear oil is in my Zs differential right now and it hasn't blown up yet as one poster said it would lol. RP is in my tranny. My current daily driver F150 5.0 has over 208k miles and runs strong. RP has been in it since 2012, for 205k miles.

I still remember the very first time I used RP oil in my truck like the first time I made whoopie! The engine ran so much smoother and quieter I was hooked. I would say RP has a strong following with not only consumers but for industrial and commercial applications also. So any RP execs reading this I always recommend your oil to friends and family, so yes I'll take a sponsorship lol!

I have already debunked the Dexos scam. GM is fleecing the oil companies plan and simple. So voiding a warranty for not using a GM recommended product is not going to fly in a court of law (see Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act).

Above all Freedom and Liberty!

Just chose a dexos2 0W40 or 5W30, and the list is pretty short.

We ran RP in our 700cid and 500cid pro stock engines but that's not relevant here to our LT1 and LT4 engines

And how many run hours did you put on them between rebuilds?

“I have already debunked the Dexos scam.“ I’m not clear how you define “debunk” here. Are you saying you found a way to void GM findings on a warranty claim so they will have to honor your claim?
