Magnuson 2650 on stock SS

I’ve been admiring Hellcat’s whining sound but it’s too much to get one of those 85K+ car…..just being a car guy, please don’t be toxic about it…

I have a 21 SS, have done some simple bolt on that don’t require a tune such as rotofab CAI, LT2 IM, Catback exhaust. I just saw a YouTube video about installing a magnuson 2650 on a stock SS and it even comes with a tune for stock SS. Just curious if anybody has done this before? And how’s the supercharger whining sound on it? Any issues or concerns? the reason I haven’t tuned my car cuz of the powertrain warranty so I’d prefer have a chill tune just for now just in case.

Please share your experience and thought! Happy holiday season!

Magnuson gives you the option of a CARB compliant tune with their superchargers, but those tunes are made to be super safe and are thus underwhelming under the vast majority of circumstances. If you're okay with this compromise, then go for it.

I don't think our Maggies whine too much in a stock setup, their stock lids are efficient at suppressing high frequencies. If you want more whine, you'll have to mod the car some more (different supercharger lid, smaller pulley) or maybe get a Whipple, although I don't know if those can be made CARB compliant... Josh probably will.

I believe the Whipple can be ordered with a CARB compliant tune but am slightly outside of that with my combo… lol

It definitely makes its presence known even at idle… you can tell that blower is ready to rock: https://photos.app.goo.gl/TbtYdTfm9Jfmh1XRA

Many have done it, great HP on lower boost and if you decide to do more mods you'll have the blower to do it. You could make 700 rwhp if you were to also add TooHighPsi port injection with reflex controller and run E85, you can do it on the stock fuel system also. I did it with a 2300 so 2650 would be even easier, probably on 9 to 10 psi of boost. Mine made 707 on 11 psi. Of course you will need custom tuning to get there.

I would love to slap on a SC for cheap but without headers and all that extra stuff. Even if it gave a 75hp gain i would be happy. FL may go back to testing cars and headers would be out.

Mine made 556/5xx with just a 2300 maggie, headers, rotofab and Jannetty tune. That's about all you could get away with on a 2650 with the stock LT1 fuel system.

Just as another data point, back in the day mine made 561 rwhp / 540 rwtq with just the Maggie 2300, an LT5 throttle body, a JMS voltage booster and a tune, no other fueling or engine mods whatsoever. The stock LT1 fuel system cannot be stretched too far beyond that, but it was still a great power bump over stock, basically stock ZL1 territory.

I’m an newbie on cars and not racing at all, just like to be a part time “exorcist “ on the highway sometimes against a GT or hellcat. So far just want something more powerful but also reliable, I won’t need to worry about the starter is burned or broken lifters, rods etc
