PS - The 20mm Tackform ball did not work out with the Course Motorsports head unit mount. Ended up buying the 20mm ball from CM.

This is looking very good already, funked1. Elegant and spacious design, plus I bet it doesn't weigh much

Thanks. I have a new design with just four flat head screws and two thumb screws. I'll share everything once I get it printed and tested. This is taking way more time and money than just buying an off-the-shelf solution, but I teach engineering design, so it's good professional development, and it's good for the kids to see how you can use the tools we have to make anything you want.

Hopefully this one prints OK... I have a carbon fiber arm on order from 67Designs to attach it to the CM mount.

Oh, this design is even better, it appears to weigh even less and the attachment mechanism is completely on the backside. Very impressive.

Thanks. Got it down to one thumbscrew and 3 flathead screws now.
Installed the Course Motorsports mount and I think it is too flexible for this application. It would probably be OK if the tablet attached directly to the ball, but with a 4" arm it's just too much moment for the little tab of sheet steel. Need to test it more. I may end up using it for my phone, and drilling or using adhesive for the tablet mount. |
