You might try a search, but I believe several have switched to Royal Purple Synchromax with positive results.

I switched to the Mobil 1 Dexron III ATF. I also haven’t done much driving since....it’s been crappy weather. But it shifted nice the first time I went for a quick spin with cold fluid.

I used Redline D4 and the shifts are a lot smoother. Cold operation seems a little better too.

Question

Over winter I switched to redline D4. I've done one test drive in 42° weather and it is night and day difference. The factory fluid forced me to put the car away early this past fall because it didn't like to go into 2nd at all in mid/late October around the same temps. All gears felt notchy as well. Last Saturday the car drove awesome, like it was brand new.

I'm figuring ill wait till the 1500 mark...
let the tranny break in and then do
diff, tranny and engine
bought mobil 1 75/90 for the diff
i was hoping to get my hand on mobil 1 esp 0-40 fro the motor but looks like only available in Europe

I'm leaning toward the royal purple for the tranny..

I went with Royal Purple - much better shifting, especially cold.

Whether you’re in the RP or Redline or whatever camp...you should see a pretty noticeable improvement over the factory fluid.

Switched to RP. in talking to Cal Webster; later he did a write up on here somewhere, as well. Definitely felt like an improvement over stock fluid. Shifting was smoother imo.

I still have factory fluid in my car, but have noticed the transmission smoothing out significantly just recently after ~ 3200 miles.

I run rp synchro as well, had it replaced at 1500 miles, I'm at 5500 now. I was just thinking about it yesterday, its shifts so smooth, I feel I could put it into gear with one finger if I really had to, hah. I have read th way it smooths out with the stock fluid as well eventually, but I didn't want to wait.

That's also what I'm hearing for the 6 speed manual is the royal purple stuff, haven't changed mine yet but that's what i'm going with. As far as the differential I went with the AC Delco 75W90 with the limited slip friction modifier already in it. No concerns with it yet anyway. My differential was always quiet I just changed it out at 1500 miles all good.

Did anyone confirm the rp will not deteriorate the blocker rings?
