Correct.
Both sides are smushed down near where the axles are even though there seems to be a ton of clearance.

Ok well thank you for letting me know, it’s a relief I don’t have anything wrong with my car. But I don’t like that it’s bashed like that. Maybe I’ll go aftermarket.

In a nutshell, these sections are crimped because the exhaust is shared between the coupe and the convertible, and the latter has a cross brace in those positions for structural rigidity.

Although it may be a bit surprising, the "bashed in" segments cause zero power loss, which was proven several times by multiple tests. If you don't like the look, you can get midpipes or an entire new exhaust, but you will gain absolutely nothing in terms of power.

Thank you for the highly informative response. I appreciate knowing it doesn’t cause power loss as well. I’m wondering if it changes the sound at all. Maybe I’ll get just that section refitted and see.

The only reason to go aftermarket is if you want louder/deeper exhaust. The power gains are minimal unless you start doing other additional mods and ultimately tune the car.

When I had my car shipped to me, the guy who picked it up asked the same
Thing and the guy at the dealer didn’t know either that’s it was done that way from the factory.
It just looks wrong

Here are two slides from the original 2016 launch display deck, the part that necessitated the "crimping" is the underbody rear Y-brace.
