New motor is back in the Camaro 10/25/18

Well I pushed this stock motor to its limit. Last time at the track I oiled it down and decided I better do a compression check and look at the cylinders with a bore scope. I do have a couple cylinder low on compression so pulling the heads off first since the wall had so pretty good scratches in them according to the scope. I'll know a little more in a few days but if the walls are just surface and if can't feel them I'll just run a ball hone down them, if I can feel them with my finger nails I'll just have to bore them ten over or so.

It was a fun run while she lasted. I guess that means making some changes and pushing into the low 9’s.

You got some awesome results on that stock bottom end. Please keep us posted on the new build. I like reading your posts.

My car has over to 200 runs, 30 runs NA, over 170 boosted, 40 runs at 7.5 to 11 lbs, 90 runs or more at 13 lbs of boost, 40 or so at 16 plus lbs of boost. I think at least one cylinder has been down since spring when I ran the 10.03, maybe that weekend since the next weekend it pushed the front seal out, 20 or more runs after that it pushed the rear seal out. I'll keep you updated on what I find out this week, hone or bore. Here is what I think I might build, Manley 10.5 pistons, Manley rods, Lingenfelter Cam(non dod) and Lingenfelter ported heads, long tubes, 2800 stall, not sure which one yet, Lt4 in tank pump and of course my 2300 Maggie (2650 when available)So, I'm surprised it lasted this long, but it will be a good build with top rate parts and I'll expect some serious hp/torque.

What were your compression readings?

My lowest was 150 on the number 1 cylinder, 4 was 189, 6 was 200, I dropped my adapter and stopped right there since I haven't been able to retrieve it till I pull the header off the pass. side.

Man, that sucks. Frustrating how crappy the pistons in the LT1 are for forced induction use.

I wouldn't call 200 passes at the track crappy. Imo it shows how well the LT1 will hold boost when done right I am guessing it would of went a lot longer had it been under 13psi. The 16psi is what killed it imo.

All cylinders were checked at least twice just to make sure I had correct data. Yes it was pretty impressive to get that many runs, but at some point I knew this might happen. Probably should have checked them after the first front seal issue but I'm sure it happened a while back, probably in late spring and I've put about 40 runs on it so far this year, give or take a few. Oh well, shit happens so were are gonna make it a little more durable. I might also have a tranny issue, after my burn out when I was staging the car something made some noise in the tranny area and it didn't shift like it normally does, felt like it might have slipped from 1 to 2, its never done that before and that's the same pass I oiled the track down. Pass before that it shifted like always and it was funny cause after that I got a diagnostics from Onstar saying I had a engine and tranny problem and should take it to Bob Mccosh for further diagnostics.

I look at things a little different than most people.

I am addressing some of the replies to your thread and not directly at you.

Racing is a parts breaking sport so it is all part of the game.

You got over 200 runs on an engine that came with the car, at over 700 hp that is a testament to GM Quality.

So that is a lot of fun for very little investment.

Not like you built a 30,000 dollar engine and blew it up.

Typical racers will rebuild they're engine every 2 years needed or not, some every year.

In sports like circle track SK modified for example which is very common around here, some teams have 3 engines on rotation and will use all of them in a season.

They have 1 in the car, 1 in the trailer, and 1 at the machine shop getting rebuilt at all times.

So I laugh when I hear drag racers complain about a broken piston after 2 or 3 years of racing.

It doesn't suck that's racing.

agreed...guys act like a engine from a 40k car is suppose to hold up for a million miles at 700whp. 200 passes is a boat load of Wot runs on a factory engine that has made 50- 75% more power most of its track life.

The top ring end gap is only .012 which is pretty darn tight for a boosted motor not to mention 700rwhp and tracking. Granted given all of that I too believe it held up pretty good since I have seen quite a few pop with less power and runs. I think it adds to the testament of tuning and quality of the up keep.
