synthetic manual transmission fluid

does any one know what a compatable synthetic fluid we can use in the manual transmission. The owners manual reads on page 326

Manual Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. 88861800) witch is a mineral oil?

Redline D4 ATF is the synthetic aftermarket fluid to use in the M6 manual transmission.

Redline D6 ATF is the synthetic aftermarket fluid to use in the A8 automatic transmission.

Can't go wrong with Redline.

Amsoil Signature Series ATF.

Probably use this myself.

I have seen many people use Redline manual transmission gear oil with their shock proof additives. I personally do not know about their automatic transmission fluid that is used now a days instead of gear oil.

I can't find the exact amount, but it should be around 4 quarts/1 gallon based on the gen5 and C6/7 capacities. I say buy 5 quarts (or a gallon jug + 1 quart bottle) to be on the safe side and you'll have plenty available. Report back with how much it actually takes please!

I'd be careful about changing to synthetic in the auto. Many of the LSx message boards are full of people complaining about auto transmission slipping and acting odd when changing from the factory fluid.

The manufacturer website recommends ATF meeting the Dexron3 specifications.
They go on to say that they Do Not recommend synthetic fluid and state various reseaons.

Not looking to start an opinion war here....as the above statement is not my opinion. Just passing along the manufacturer recommendation.

Peace

after a little more looking, its not clear that every gear has them. it looks like only the ones that were historically problematic. so unless we can confirm otherwise, theres no way i would use anything other than the recommended oil

Amsoil. Made the switch at 1500 miles. On OEM fluid, it would get HOT after about 12 passes on a strip. Now I can make 15 hotlaps and it never gets close to redline.
