Oil in the intake and a fried hose!

Today I found dirty sludgy oil had pooled in the air intake tube where the filter connects to it, and oil film all throughout the tube. My catch can has been bone dry for several months and upon looking behind the manifold I saw and felt the hose had been deformed. It has a huge bulge in it and has a different, softer texture. Has anyone got a clue how or why this happened? Where its like that is nowhere near the headers. Do I just need a new hose? Its still on and there aren't any holes in it

That's exactly what happened to my brake booster hose. The one that connects right behind the manifold near the oil pressure sensor. It was really soft and swollen in one spot and had developed pinhole leaks which eventually triggered a P0556. It's weird since it's not really near any major extreme heat sources. It never caused any other outward symptoms of a vacuum leak though, which I thought was strange.

Just speaking generally here, but I assume any loss of function on a vacuum system line is going to cause a loss of efficiency in the PCV system. Seeing as you are running the LOD intake, I am not really sure about your PCV setup/routing.

If not from a heat source, then the deformation is more than likely from vacuum that was hindered or blocked in some way. The pic, to me, looks like the hose was collapsed for some time and then held the shape. Only an opinion.

It almost looks like it got pinched somewhere, or was bent a little to cause a kink in it to get warm and soften and maybe collapse some. And as for the oil in your intake tube, I had that happen as well, I pulled the small hose from my passenger side valve cover that went to the intake tube off and capped the fitting on the intake tube and left the hose from the valve cover just laying along the valve cover and no more oil was in my tube at the filter.

Thanks a lot for the input guys, I am just going to replace the hose and hope it doesnt happen again. By the time I can hopefully get back over to GPI for my spring refresh/replacement I can always have them look at it if it keeps happening.

You're welcome bro, good luck. So far I haven't had that hose issue yet. Now the next time I take her out for a cruise, I guess I need to look at it. lol.

Synthetic oils can attack hoses like this.
