Standard vs Brembo Brake Comparison on LT
I’m ordering a 2LT and considering ordering with upgraded Brembo 4-piston performance front brakes. The option is $595. The car will be driven 100% on the street, but considering for added performance and safety.
Does anyone have any comparison data or experience on what I might see as far added performance? Thanks for your help. |

If you're financing the car over several years I'd probably go for it since it will only change the payment by maybe 10 bucks or so

I had the standard brakes on my previous 2LT and now the 4-piston brembos on the 2SS. Initial bite is significantly better on the brembos, and when you're deep into the pedal, they are much more authoritative and confidence inspiring.
Now, do you need them on an LT? Honestly, not really, but for $595 it'd be a no brainer for me if I ever wanted to drive the car more aggressively than a grandma. The one drawback—and I'm not gonna lie, this was a dealbreaker to some others—is that the stock brembo pads leave a lot of brake dust on the wheels, the tradeoff for superior performance. You can replace the pads with PowerStop carbon ceramic pads, which are not expensive, but not as good either. I for one don't mind the dust at all, cleaning wheels is therapeutic and having good brakes is essential with my supercharged SS. That said, if I were you, I'd still buy the brembos in a heartbeat for this minuscule surcharge, if only for their potential, and worry about dusting and pad composition later.

I don't track or daily the car, so my pads last a very long time, which may not be representative. Hopefully someone else can chime in with longevity info.
