Borla ATAK axleback sound

Do these mufflers change their tone or back the volume down a little after break in? Just got them put on and they are pretty loud/tinny sounding with the Stainless Works long tube headers. Just curious if their sound changes after break in???

Ask the neighbor...

sorry could not resist.

Usually they "break in" and get quieter, but quieter is subjective

They’ll break in and get a tad quieter, but no offense what did you expect from long tubes and aftermarket mufflers besides loud?

The volume of every exhaust I've ever had on my cars never got quieter. Maybe yours will according to the other 2 posts. But I don't see anyone being able to tell the difference in it even if it does. Borla S Type may have been a better choice for you.

I got the S-type AB and noticed a SLIGHT volume increase. Nothing too noticeable

I don't mind loud, but the tone doesn't sound near as good in person as it does in the clips I watched on YouTube. Maybe it's better from outside the car. Still way better than the long tubes running into the stock muffler.

Sounds like you might have wanted to go with borla’s S Type rather than the Atak muffler, the Atak has a much louder raspier sound in comparison. You could also swap out the factory xpipe and get rid of the secondary cats and see if that makes it more to your liking.

Factory xpipe went out with the stainless works long tube headers that come with their own xpipe.

I always thought that after they break in they get louder not quieter. I've never experienced that. I got the Borla S-Type NPP installed Friday on my 2021 ZL1. I took over a trip over a 200 mile round trip. I will say it did get slightly louder in the interior to me but they normally say after 500 miles they break in.

My girlfriend's 2019 2SS has a Solo Performance axleback it doesn't have mufflers but after 500 miles and everything got snotted up it does sound a bit louder. Just my first hand experience.

Do you have the Atak NPP? If so when Maxi/Me put my axleback on I instructed him to cut one set of the ears off on the actuator per the TSB on the NPP valve rattle while we had them off the stock and reinstalled on the new S-Type axleback. I don't have any tinny sound but I don't have headers and I'm stock.
