Being it's local government, they're self-insured and they will make it right. Recommend you funnel it all through your insurance company. I deal with this all the time as a city fleet manager and I can tell you we try to fix this kind of thing quickly so it doesn't inflate into a big litigation action.

Sorry to see your car got hurt, good luck and hopefully they'll resolve it soon!

Sorry this happened to you. Looks like he hit your tire and wheel pretty good. Be sure to have the suspension looked at and alignment checked.

The Fire Department will make it right. The driver of the apparatus is not immune from anything. The boys would get in more trouble and likely lose their jobs if they tried to cover it up and deny it happened. They should be as forthcoming as possible. They do not use their goodwill with the public to avoid responsibility. Quite the opposite. This is not uncommon or anything you should worry about pursuing. Good luck.

All of our GOV Vehicles carry our city's insurance cards and are provided to all parties as part of the driver's exchange.
Perhaps it's different from state to state? I'm in PA. This past spring my daughter's Volt was hit by a county garbage truck at the county recycling center. Her rear hatch was open and she was NOT in the car. Inattentive truck driver sideswiped the entire left side, then pulled forward making it worse. It was all on camera.

I expected swift legal response by the county, but they claimed "government immunity" and the slow process began. Ultimately it legally had to go through her insurance, but the county paid the $500 deductible and paid for the rental car, assuring us it wouldn't be a knock against her insurance. She is a youth driver so this was a big concern.

Whoever was driving that truck needs to be fired. You can't be just driving around damaging peoples vehicles and try to run away and pretend nothing happened. How's that for public trust?

that's a leap - I agree there should be repercussions if the driver knew this happened, but a fire truck is pretty massive - I could easily see this happening and nobody knew. Our local crew put spotters out when driving in our court and backing up and such.

But I give these guys the benefit of the doubt unless proven wrong - they have a very difficult job to say the least and risk their lives to save people and buildings on a weekly basis.

I’m sorry this was your experience. Sounds corrupt on their end. Definitely not how our city operates.

I wonder if the car was parked in the street then the FD may not take responsibility for the damage. Hope that’s not the case though and they pay for the repairs. Btw, check your estimate to see if a new tire and wheel are listed. From the pic the tire sidewall was scuffed and the wheel had some slight damage.

The wheel is on the estimate but not the tire.

I would contact the adjuster and see if they will put a new tire on the estimate! It’s scuffed up pretty bad from the pics. Just took a second look and I don’t see why a new tire wasn’t in the estimate.

That is messed up. I don't know what goes on in Pennsylvania, but here where I work, we bust our asses to make sure citizens don't suffer from our foolishness. Our refuse trucks have done some heinous damage to vehicles, I'm escorting a lawyer tomorrow morning to take photos of one of our trucks that can-opened a Camry from stem to stern with the cab steps. They'll get made whole...

I'm pretty sure they will take responsibility. Its all through insurance anyway.
These guys are trained well so I'm sure the FD insurance is not going to sweat them.

I wouldn't worry too much.
