L99 After bolt-ons / Stall and gears or cam?

Hey guys,

So I'm totally on the fence about whether to start my after-bolt on mods with a stall, gears, or cam...

If I do a stall it will be a 3200, and then I will probably do 3.91's a bit later.

If I do a cam I may go with the GPI SS1 cam since I've read it will get me to about 450 RWHP and it's a wicked daily driver cam.

So, should I go with the stall/gears first, or a cam?

I did gears first and love the change. It really livens up the L99.

You didnt do a review lol. Op after doing both....I would do a stall first....that way if you change your mind and get cammed sooner ...the stall is in already. Royal Tiger is right ..the car is really good with 391s. But i did recommend a stall to him as well lol.

You can run anything depending on how big your wallet is!

Ok, so it sounds like stall and gears over cam....so at least I have that figured out. Now I just need to decide on gears or stall first, and I'm sure I won't get a consensus on that.

I wouldn't... with a SC. Turbo may be different. I have plenty of torque down low... don't need gears to multiply. most 3.91 guys that go SC, go back to 3.45, otherwise it is like you are driving on skates.

I loved the CAM, but could not put all of the power to the ground properly without some sort of posi-mod or locker. Of course if you are going to crack it open to do one of those you might as well put in the gearset you want to run. I did CAM (SS1) then LSA before I ever addressed the rear end. Finally put in a ZL1 rear diff - almost the same gear ratio but a much tighter clutch pack on the posi... WOW what a difference. I then did solid sub frame bushings. At over 500HP they do make a difference. The thing hooked so much better / truer. YMMV, but to do it all again with the SS1 I would do CAM and GEARS with a locker.... May stop there and not do the LSA conversion. At that point the car is so much easier to drive... the power level was way more idiot proof. Much more of a punch it and enjoy.... Now if I punch it, there needs to be a small prayer and finger cross to make sure nothing stupid happens.

My wife daily drives the car as she did when it was just the SS1 and factory stall. Ryan can dial it in an it is VERY driver friendly. It pushed a little at stoplights, but it was just a good reminder the car is not stock

I did cam (ss3 vvt) torque converter (triple disc 3600) and 3.91 gears all at once. Feels really smooth, I do around 40 miles a day. Going slow and being stopped at a light can be annoying - the car wants to go! I turn my car off while ordering Starbucks. Unfortunately since I did everything at once I don't have much to help with input to your post, but none of it is hard to get used to.

Do it all at once! Mine's going in Tuesday for heads, cam, stall, 3.91s, full bolt ons other than the headers and exhaust I currently have.

See post #3 lol. I always talk to the guys that have done what Im looking to do. That way its first hand advice. I did gears then 3200 Circle D stall. I sent my cars info with current mods to Circle D and they recommended the stall I have. Looking back I would have done the stall first.
