295-19 square set-up with Apex wheels going on soon!

Ordered up a set of 4 of the 19x10.5 ET35 Apex ARC-8 wheels this week on the winter sale.

Costco was doing a one day flash sale on Michelin tires on New Years day, so I locked in a deal at $150 off for a set of Pilot SS in 295-35-19 size that will match these rims perfectly.

Going on a 2016 SS Convertible - all stock. Might also add the GM Performance lowering suspension later this year as well - but will start with the new tire / wheel package.

Ordered the 15mm and 20mm Eibach pro spacers and will return whichever one I don't use. I don't have MRC and since I'm going 295 instead of 305 tires I might get away with the 15mm. But either way this will give me a rotatable square set-up and a safe and robust spacer set-up for the front.

Wheels are on a UPS truck today - I will shoot out some pics when I get them. May take a couple weeks to get them on the car, but I'll at least do a mock up with the spacers on the front and see where things sit with just the rim and report back.

Did you buy the extended lugs? If not please don't bolt your wheels on until you do.

I don't know why Apex pushes the ET35 when the ET22 fits well.

the eibach spacers are 2 piece with separate lugs, so longer studs are not needed. I didn't want to run more than a .5" conventional spacer

It's personal preference. I would rather not have the rears stick out a little bit. They mention the ET22 will poke about 10mm with 305's. Even with 295's it would be slightly outside the fenders. I would rather keep the tires inside the fender line in the rear.

update - I got the wheels - very nice looking wheels. But I don't like the fit. The 19x10.5 with 20mm spacers poke out of the fender a good 1/3" maybe more.

I also don't like the spacer set-up. There is no cut-outs on these wheels where the spacer lugs are, so I would have to cut the studs flush with the mounting nuts.

Between those two issues this is a non starter for me. I also don't want to run a regular spacer that large - 20mm. There is no way a 15mm will work - there is barely enough clearance to the strut assembly. Non MRC car btw.

So I need to return 2 of these and will run a 19x10 ET20 up front instead. From my calculations that will reduce the poke almost 1/2" which should be flush with the fender or just inside the fender. Should also be able to still run 295's square on this combo as the tire is spec'ed for a 10-11.5" wide rim. And gives me the option of running 285 or 295 square or 285/305 in the future.

Of course these wheels seem to be backordered and they also are not on sale. Plus I had all 4 shipped so have to deal with that. Could be a pain but can't go with this set-up.

Apex calls this out as a direct fit set-up with 285-295-305 square tires. But they don't mention the rim sticks out a bit. That's OK for a race set-up, but not for a street set-up. They should have been more clear in the fitment guide - the poke wasn't mentioned.

Not happy. Maybe I'll just return these all together and forget Apex.

Well I haven’t mounted tires. I may mount tires on 2 wheels for now.

But I can’t install the fronts without cutting the stock lugs. But maybe I could mock it up with some washers or something.

That's why you buy extended lugs to use with the spacer, not the spacers that have their own lugs. Also get the grinder out and grind the strut to clear with the 15mm spacer.

Ya I didn’t like the idea of such a large 1 piece spacer. But maybe that’s a better way to go.

Apex calls for a 20mm. Maybe a 15mm would work. But either way it’s longer studs.
The damn ARP studs are expensive too.
I felt the 2 piece would be stronger. But maybe doesn’t matter with long studs and a concentric hub spacer.

also realized I was measuring with suspension at full droop. As such the rim sits about .5"-.6" outside the fender from the top. But using the stock set-up I measured both at suspension drop and on the wheels and it's .3" further in-board on the wheels. And that is before the suspension settles out by driving the car. Also that is with stock camber. So probably with 1deg negative camber the wheel will be pretty flush even with a 20mm spacer. And maybe I could get away with a 15mm spacer.

I don't see many pre-made spacers around for our cars - probably need to have them custom made to spec, unless I go with the Apex 20mm ones.

Actually found one supplier for 15mm:

After some discussion with Apex I am going to a slip on hub-centric spacer in a 16mm size and will use the 1" longer ARP studs. They say with a hub-centric spacer and longer lugs there is no difference in strength or load on bearings u vs. a wheel with the same net offset - so this brings me to a net ET 21 on a 10.5" wheel. I will grind clearance at the shock mount as needed.

I will also add some negative camber between 1 and 1.5 degrees which will help make the top of the wheel flush or inside the fender-line.

Tires get mounted today at Costco - Pilot SS in 295-35-19 size.

got the tires. Rear fitment is spot on. Parts on order for the front - custom spacer is the long pole.

got spacers built by MotorSports Tech in Reno. Took several weeks, but they are very nicely made and fit perfectly. I pressed the studs on over the weekend at a friends shop using a harbor freight press and a cobbled together jig - got the job done. ARP studs that are 1" longer than stock.

Spacer is hubcenteric and fits the wheel perfectly - used the same specs as the Apex 20mm spacer. Turns out I think I could have pushed it to a 13mm maybe even a 12mm with these tires - worst case would have needed some minor grinding of the shock body. These did not need any grinding.

Again wheel spec is +35 offset, so the net offset is +19mm with these spacers on a 10.5" wide wheel. These wheels work well for a 295 tire. I'm not sure I really need 295's all around on a convertible, but it looks pretty bad-ass and the car is seriously transformed from a handling perspective. Turn-in is immediate - the car is much more of an extension of my brain than before, part of that is the tires but the bigger footprint and removing the stagger makes a difference too. Feels much more like my 71 - that car has a 12:1 steering gear and 275/295 treadwear 200 tires. So far I'm pretty happy with it. No rubbing yet under any conditions.

The car could probably stand for a .75" lower stance now - I'm thinking about the GM Performance kit that includes shocks.

Ok - some pics.
