I'd be happy to see the LT5 in a ZL1 R version.

I like the idea of a R version or maybe Iroc Z. How would you guys/Camaro community feel if they used the LT5 and added AWD? So the focus would clearly be street and strip with track having the least importance. Though I’m sure it would still be good and fast on a track!

AWD adds weight - not a good plan.
I would like to see a NA lightweight no creature comfort road course rock star. But don't expect to see that anytime soon, last Z/28 proved that business model is a failure! |

Where on earth would you fit a front differential?

Camaros have never been, and never should be AWD.
Save that for a completely different car/nameplate (not that GM is considering it, but they have a way of ruining all their nameplates).

Yes it adds weight, but it also adds significant traction benefits. GM doesn’t need to keep adding road course cars, every one wants them but they actually sell in very small numbers! I know if they did with a RWD mode everyone here who’s old school would complain until the test numbers come out and it crushes the competition in street/strip. Ya sure it’d be a bit slower on a track but honestly that’s what the 1LEs are for.

I don’t disagree with that, the idea as a Z28 would be pretty offbase, but I think the idea would work with the Camaro but a totally new nameplate.

They could make a nasty N/A 6th gen Z/28 if they wanted to and keep the costs in check. The platform itself is 150lbs lighter than the 5th gen platform. Use the exact same brakes and suspension shocks DSSV's. Save some money there. The last "business model" didn't work because of the price point, not because of what the car had. There's 100,000 diehard car guys that wanted a Z/28, and only 1800 with the disposable funds to make it happen. Keep the car priced between the 1LE and the ZL1 around $50k, and you'll see them fly off the showroom floor. That will require some serious parts-bin shopping, but they can make it happen if they wanted to.

There was a post on the C8 forum from someone who apparently got credible info 2020 would bring out an LT5 A10 Camaro and the 1le would be available in A10 as well. The post has since been deleted but did have alot of factual c8 content and the Camaro stuff was just thrown in there. I still think the LT5 Camaro is 100% happening, especially with the 770 GT500 finally coming out.

I’d be very surprised. GM never cared about the horsepower of the Challenger or Mustang before. Why would they care with only a few years left in the 6th gen? Al O was moved because the 6th gen is done.

My dream Camaro would be something like we have now with the ZL1, but add a 200 HP electric assist to the front wheels for acceleration only (or if you run out of gas it can limp you the 10 miles to the station lol)

Would an LT5 with AWD work for you? I would really like what you suggested as well. I don’t even think you’d need 200 hp, something like 100hp to the front would also be like 200 lb tq. I wonder what the weight difference would be between all wheel drive and motors driving the front wheels
