It's actually very easy to do I found out, I bought a pair of Morimoto 5500K's and popped them in easily... I took off the intake the box, literally just by loosening up the hose clamp, disconnecting it and pulling the box straight up... Pushed down the fender liner and had plenty of space.

Then on the other side, removed the 4 nuts for the battery thing and moved it aside and pushed down the fender liner and had enough room.

I didn't like how blue the 5500k's were so I put the stock 4300k's back in after a week... I think I became a pro at it because it only took 3-5 minutes to swap them back out... I heard Phillips has a set of 4800k's that will give the pure white I am looking for but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I'd like to thank BamBam2SS and everyone else that contributed to this thread.

Because of the photos and clear descriptions I found here, I just completed my first ever HID bulb swap in my 2SS in about 5-6 minutes, start to finish, without needing any tools. It really IS pretty easy and straightforward to do.

Thanks a lot!

I actually just replaced an OEM bulb that had unexpectedly failed after 1 year. But the info in this thread made the task MUCH simpler than I would have otherwise found it.

I really knew nothing about HID headlights. I honestly didn't think they were wear items at all. For some reason, I had been lead to believe they were sealed units that were basically expected to last for years and years, instead of still basically being a bulb unit that has a finite lifespan and will fail in time. Though I would have expected more than ~1 year out of an original.

Please let me know how you did it. I am pretty new to this and planning to swap headlight to the one AlphaCamaro did (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KNEW3T8...ybHKVBBWD?th=1). I have a 2016 Camaro 2SS, but I don't have any toolkit to take out intake or other things. Please let me know if we can change headlight to 6000K HID without taking off any item?

Also, everyone please suggest a toolkit for DIY things.

Thanks

1. floor jack
2. Jack stands
3. a set of wrenches 8-24mm
4. a set screwdriver 2-3 flat and 2-3 cross
5. a set allen key /hex key
6. set ratchets 1/4“ and 1/2“
Those are the basics in my opinion. There is much more but for the start it should do.
Important: Do not buy cheap tools. It makes it more difficult and you can hurt yourself.
Have a look here

Want to do the opposite
Got a 2017 Zl1 with xenon
Want to switch for LED!

Before you say it’s stupid to downgrade for LED,
Just because I’m going back to France and over there if you have xenon you have to have a washing kit...(EU law and normes)
Don’t want to make holes in my bumper!
Solution is to replace xenon by led or halogen

What do I have to look for?
Tx

Here in Germany if the burner is 25W instead of 35W and the light is less than 2000lumen you don’t need a washing kit or an automatic range control.

I don’t know in the US but here in the EU all 6Gen have 25W and 2000 Lumen.

I also thought the HID bulb would last for years, my camaro is 20 months old and I think I need to replace the bulb, the guys at the dealer are not even clear if it is the bulb or the complete ballast, the light turned yellowish and it lost brightness (Really yellowish, like halogen color), would this be the symptom of having to change the bulb? or could it be something more serious?
