23 SS1LE Wheel Options

Hi all, my first Camaro (1 month since purchase ) and looking to get wheels/tires for the winter.

Do stock SS wheels clear the brakes? I understand regular SS wheels are not as wide and the tires are 245 front with 275 rears. I think that width is fine for winter tires but wanted to get your take on the wheel clearance.

Thanks!

Stock SS wheels will easily clear everything on a 1LE. They are still 20" wheels, so they have plenty of room inside the barrels for the brakes. Even the 20x8.5 1LT will fit fine. They are cheaper, and narrower (in back) is arguably better for snow and ice use...plus you can rotate them because all four are the same dimensions. Believe it or not, even the base model 18x8.5 wheels will fit a 1LE, although you might need to trim the brake duct on the front lower control arm a bit (or just remove it for winter) to keep the tire from rubbing it at full steering lock. These are the wheels I use.

I got 19x9s for winter that all have the same offset. They stick out just as much as the stock 1LE wheels, but are obviously skinnier and I can rotate them with 255 tires. They clear the brakes. You'll have no problem clearing the brakes with 20" wheels. Most 19s will work. Some 18s will work.

If you wanted to only use tires that you can fit on the OE wheels and save some expense of a second wheel set, you can use these sizes on the OE wheels, this is my method for winter:

285/35/20 Rear
275/35/20 Front
