Cadillac CT6 - A8 issues?

Am thinking about buying a 2016+ Caddy CT6. My Camaro is an M6 so I have no experience with the A8 transmission other than seeing some comments on this site.

What type of issues would I look for? Should I avoid the A8 models? The CT6 has similar engines (i4 turbo, V6, V6 TT) does this matter. I think they switched over to the A10 in 2018.

thanks for any info.

The shudder issue for the GM A8 is across the board. Doesn't matter which vehicle. Although the new fluid and flush has seemed to take care of it for now. Time will tell

I have experience with the A8 in my V6 2018 Colorado. I had the shudder, 18-NA-355 flush & fill, then Torque Converter replaced. It appears to be okay for now.

Based on my experience I would avoid the A8. Thankfully, GM seems to be moving away from the A8 on many models.

Does the "new" new fluid fix it? Or does the torque converter eventually need replacing? Wondering if I buy a low mile car and change out the fluid right away if that would then fix it. -John

That's the million dollar question lol. It's only been out for less than a year at this point. Only time will tell the true tale

The new fluid is expected to prevent further damage, but if the torque converter clutches are already damaged by that time, nothing but a replacement will resolve that. Logically, if that's the case, the shudder should reoccur shortly after the flush, but I'm not an expert. Also, the A8 performs much better with a custom tune in general.

Overall, if you're afraid of this issue and/or don't want to get the transmission tuned, you'll be better off getting a newer Cadillac with the A10.

I have the HPTuners tool already. I'm gonna take a test drive or 2 this weekend. To test for shudder, you get it in 8th gear at low rpm on a slight incline?

Yeah, 7th or 8th gear, 1400 to 1600 rpm, low throttle input on a slight incline, look for a rumble strip like sensation. This is secondhand info, though, my trans doesn't shudder, but it seems to be the universal consensus.
