No A/C

So, today, I drove my ZL1 to work. Roughly a 17 mile drive. Fortunately, this morning, it was only 76 degrees.

However, when I left the building, it was 96 degrees. So, I double click the unlock button and hold it so that the windows open as I am walking to the car.

I hop in and fire her up, hit the Auto button on the climate control and dial it down to 70. I then proceed to exit the parking lot. It is now that I notice warm air coming out of the vents, not cold.

I proceed to drive home with the windows down and park her in the garage. This was around 3pm.

An hour later, I pop the hood and pull the cover off of the fuse block. I find that the A/C compressor clutch fuse is F48. A 10amp fuse. I pull it, replace it with a new one. Then fire up the engine.

Still no A/C. Bummer. I will be calling the dealer tomorrow for an appointment. I just hit 17k miles. While I know I am still under warranty, I am suspicious that maybe they pinched or stretched an A/C line when they replaced the oil pump a few months back. I have not even put 1000 miles on it since the oil pump replacement. And I remember that they had to replace the A/C belt for some reason.

With my luck, they will tell me that an A/C line is leaking, not their fault, and no one has one in stock. Will take weeks.

That is the way my luck runs.... <sigh> Hope I am wrong on this one...

Anyone else lose A/C in their ZL1 with less than 20k miles on it?

I believe I have a post on here about this somewhere but my 19 ZLE was blowing warm one day went and had it check and the Freon was low so it wouldn’t kick the compressor clutch on to save burning out the motor (easy to see if you turn on AC and look down under the hood) they recharged it with some dye and found a small leak near a weld so replaced it all. Was a very tiny leak so I had AC while they got the part in. Chances are you have a tiny leak as well and it’s finally just gotten low enough to quit kicking the clutch in. Free warranty recharges until part is in

Was this not an option on 2017 models? I never could get mine to work.

I just hit my unlock once and continue to hold it down. Both windows obediently roll down. I don't think this is an "option" but more of an extra that all ZL1's have.

AC

My AC quit 4500 miles. Took it to the dealer, it had lost the AC Belt, completly gone no lights just hot air, new belt all good.

This was actually the second thing I checked after replacing the A/C compressor fuse. Because they had to replace this belt when they did my oil pump.

But, my belt is still there. When I contacted the dealer on Tuesday about an appointment, the earliest they had is Tuesday, Aug 18. So, I will let you guys know the outcome after I have it fixed.

Nah, it's not a ZL1-only feature but rather an option that has to be enabled in the infotainment settings ("Remote Window Operation"), it defaults to off.

Oh sweet thanks, I'll have to check it out because I've never been able to get it to work

Like I said, you probably have a leak take it and have them do a compression test on machine at dealer

Small hole in condenser possibly - all it takes is a rock bouncing off the freeway

FYI, I temporarily lost my AC on a cross-country trip during a 100+ F stretch across the Midwest on my 2017 ZL1 vert after purchasing used in NJ driving back to Cali.

I took it to a dealer for checkout - 100% clean. I hope it doesn't give out the same way in the future... when you need it the most... say driving across the Cali/Nevada/Utah desert.

Mine went out about a year and a half from the day it was built. I was told it was leaking in a weld where one of the fill/charge ports T into the line. Been good ever since they replaced it. I probably had less than 5k miles at the time.

Exact same as mine, weld near the T on topside
