Any pics of how/where you cut the stock box?

I don't. It's not my car. It was a buddy from another state that came down for the rental.

I think I see the confusion now. You guys aren't counting decimal points on the time. The first pass in the pic was done at 4:57:54. Not 7:54. The stock cut box was run first in better weather and was the slowest.

Hey guys this is actually my car. Thanks pray for posting it. My stock air box with a hole cut in it and a green filter consistently ran 3 passes of 11.52. Then pray let me borrow his roto fab. I put the whole system on and ran 2 passes of 11.48 back to back. So then we decide to take the roto fab intake tube off and put the stock ss intake tube on the roto fab air box to see if there is any difference. Unfortunately i only got one pass with it setup like that but it went 11.46 with stock intake tube and roto fab air box and filter. No tuning changes where done through these 6 passes.

It would be cool to fab a rectangle velocity stack into the top box and smooth all that texture on the underside of the lid, maybe even dimple the surface..

The scuttlebutt I have been getting from this forum is that a CAI doesn't give that much of a performance improvement. Which then makes one consider if a drop in filter such as a K&N would be just as good as a CAI.

But if I am interpreting the OP correctly, it presents evidence that a CAI is a marked improvement over a just a drop in filter?

Am I reading this right?

There is a dyno run of a green filter and a cut box that shows a reasonable improvement, and I believe one with no filter in it at all. Heck I've dynode Fram filters at 3 HP, they are absolute crap filters but they flow well enough due to their paper thin element. 1 MPH and for the RotoFab and then .1 MPH for RotoFab and stock intake tube is interesting in it own right. Which lead to my speculation that maybe the stock lid needs more aerodynamic treatment to function properly in the real world.

As an aside, when I cut my box, I added a rubber lip to better seal this to the fender so there would be no intrusion of underhood air. About 5 minutes of work, this was not done in the Pray test (assumed). I may even speculate without a lip, there is a slight draft at the cut (at speed) due to air being pulled out of the fender well as well as the back of the engine compartment. It is entirely possible to form an air channel in top of the inner wheel well to feed the cut lip, thus insuring pressured directional air vs what I suspect to be a draft at speed.

I have shown many dyno graphs of the RF with the dry filter being much better than the stock air box. This was a modified air box with the filter of choice that was supposed to be better or equal to the RF. Clearly it is not. Now there is definitive dyno and track testing back to back. The only real difference was that the DA went up about 500ft between the testing. The RF was run in the highest DA.

For the record, I don't vend nor am I sponsored by RF. I am just telling the truth with data to back it up as usual.

My kind of weather

Roto Fab and dry filter, they knocked it out of the park.
