Attention all M6 guys with slow start/no start when hot
Backstory....my car has been in and out of the dealer for 2 months for not wanting to restart when it gets hot/or super slow start when gets hot. Its left me stranded a couple times. They could never figure it out. It wouldn't start but had power and all.
Come to find out I have a bad thrust bearing and the engine was halfway locking up. 27k miles and my car needs a new motor. I know other guys have had similar issues, so if your in the same boat have them check the car for crank walk. Mine is pretty bad. The only reason they figured it out was the CEL came on for a crank sensor, and it finally led them to the issue. Not sure if this would effect the A8 guys as much as the M6 guys but its something to remember if your car is having this issue. |

wow...20 yrs later and GM still having some thrust bearing issues. I seen a few LS1's over the years have the same issue. I do not think it is very common though.

Yea not sure how common it is. GM definitely knows about it because the tech told me when he called the GM hotline and explained the issues, they are the ones who told him what to check. So evidently they know about this issue somewhat. I have seen a few posts of guys having similar issues, so just wanted to give a heads up if people were having the same issue as me. Dealer couldn't find the problem forever.

So OP, your car refused to start when it was hot? How hot? 200-210F? Hotter? Ive had the slow start issue, but never has it not started. I believe it start slow for me when sitting at an incline.

Yes multiple times it would crank super slow and not start. Lots of times it cranked slow but did fire after a second. My car rarely sees 200 degrees. So anywhere around 180 or so was when it would do it.

So if Chevy knows about it, is it a manufacturing issue or an issue with installing or just a design issue?>

They never elaborated on the root cause of the issue. They haven't even pulled my oil pan yet. They have just diagnosed and and sent GM the picture of the software to make sure it wasn't tuned I guess.

Hmmm... The other day after driving for a little while and knowing the car was warmed up I had the perfect opportunity to let it rip. Wide open 5 lanes wide coming out of a toll booth with no cars in sight. After that I stopped at a store. When I came out it did have trouble starting back up. Cranked slow but finally did start. A8 here.. Wonder if I should be concerned too

Normally manual cars are the ones you see crank walk issues with, but anything can happen. That's exactly how my car was, except at times it wouldn't start. I wouldn't have to rip on mine, just needed to get up to temperature. And it seemed the hotter it was outside the more it would happen.

mine slow starts as well. I've had a number of people comment that I need a new battery but i've always responded that it was normal because its happened since day one of owning it. Slightly annoying but hasnt left me stranded yet.

A thrust bearing failing so early sounds like a problem at the engine plant. Sorry OP. That sucks. |

Yea it sucks, especially since its getting time to put the car up for the year. Now the car has just been sitting outside for 2 days no work done...this dealership will hate me by the end of this. Im not gonna have one of those stories about not having my car for a month over a job that should be finished in a week. I was a tech for 7 years I know how they work.
