Agree. 77 280Z, 80 Z28 Manual only. New car, auto only.

I wanted to eventually get a 6th gen ZL1 1LE so I thought that point had possibly not arrived yet, but now that it has the A10 I think I would have to get it that way.

Customer with a Shock A10 1LE ordered is sending it straight here from the dealer when it comes in for Whipple/Cam/Headers Etc in a few weeks. I'll start a build thread when it arrives

I have heard builders/tuners are having a hard time with the 2019 ZL1's? I guess it has something to do with GM making the software very hard to unlock. It has a rolling ever changing password that HP has not figured out yet. What are you seeing about this?

19 ZR1 yes, before long people are going to say screw it and pop a MoTec on them to mod. I'm not aware of the 19 ZL1 having a locked computer, should be the same as 19 Z06's, where it costs twice the credits but still unlock-able.

It's not locked... but yes the credits are crazy high right now.

Can't wait to see this build.

The best reason NOT to buy an A10 ZL1 1LE is seeing "SHIFT DENIED" on the DIC when you're coming up to a a corner and hit the downshift paddle and it ... won't.

Face it: GM's auto trans programming is not renown for being good in a performance context.

This coming from someone that's owned a G8 GXP (manual, LS3+TR-6060, HPT tune on the engine) and enjoyed it, Saab 9-7x Aero (Trollblazer, LS2+4L70e, left it stock) that sadly only had a 4 speed auto and sucked, a CTS-V wagon (auto, LSA+6L90e, HPT tune on motor + trans) which to its credit was okay but still balky on downshifts, and now also have a 2500 Quadrasteer Suburban (LQ4+4L80e, HPT tune on motor + trans) which only serves to remind me how totally inadequate a 4 speed auto is in the modern context.

Sure, 10 speeds would be great, but I simply don't trust the GM bureaucracy to not build in a bunch of nannies and indecision. Maybe I'm old fashioned but from rental Cruze crapcans all the way through top-end cars I haven't experienced a good factory auto transmission programming from GM.

Have you experienced this for yourself, the A10 gets amazing reviews. Who knows if they are paid for or not though

That shift denied is saving you from a money shift downshift...

Nah, not true. There's significant thresholds in (at least the 6L80/90e series) where they won't downshift and rev the motor over say 5k rpm in circumstances where TC is also doing its thing, or other circumstances where (for example) in a manual you could do a skip shift of going from 2nd to 5th or 6th on your own - if the auto thinks the road speed is too low for the gear, it will similarly deny that.

I'd love to drive one but sadly Chevy dealers think a $60-70k car is somehow a priceless exotic and I haven't found a local joint willing to toss me the keys yet. Interestingly a few years back I convinced a local dealer to let me drive a SS 1LE that hadn't even fully gone through PDI (I think it had 3 miles when I got in it) that I took up into our foothills, and between that + a rental 6th gen SS (auto, 8 speed) I flogged in a hill climb after my V's front main seal died I'm pretty sure I have some performance context in the Alpha platform from which to draw upon.

Unless the 10 speed is telepathic and programmed with BMW M-series levels of aggressive preemptive downshifts while braking (call me skeptical) I suspect it's still going to be a day late and a dollar short in many scenarios, however, I'd love to be proven wrong.

Hi MLEE,

Is this why we haven't heard about any comparison between the '18 and '19 software? I recall there were files that were being submitted ad then looked at by someone who could do that comparison.

I drove up to Ed Bozarth at Park Meadows last weekend. They tossed me the keys and said let's go for a drive. Did about 8-10 miles and I was pretty impressed with the ZL1 A10. That being said it was cold as hell and I didn't really get on it.
