I can’t recall if that’s how the first Shelby Mustangs were done, too.
This - ASC also did the WS6 conversions for the 4th gens.

If I remember correctly, the first few years of GT500s were done by Shelby, and then somewhere around 2010, Ford began to complete the GT500 assembly in house (I could be off a year or two).

The S197 GT500 was always done 100% in house by Ford. Carrol Shelby had a little input in it, but other than that the car was done by SVT and always rolled along the same assembly line as every other Mustang

it's all good!

It gets confusing because IIRC at the time the 07 GT500 was launched, Shelby American was selling Shelby GT*** as a post title package so it was pretty confusing.

Well the latest Car & Driver edition stated that it will be atleast a 1/2 second faster in the quarter mile than the ZL1 and should be faster than the RedEye, so they are thinking faster than 10:80s

I was looking at the article you mentioned here. It states that they believe it will have "the rumored" 720 HP. Does that mean it will be a lot lighter than folks are expecting, or do you feel like I do that this will have much more than the 720 HP Car & Driver is guessing? I think it will be more along the lines of 760-775 HP range, and yes it will be a bit heavy, but have the power to compensate...

I've read a few rumors that the car trapped well over 130-mph in the 1/4 during manufacturer testing, if it indeed does weigh in at 4200 lbs I think its going to take more than 720-hp to run that mph. My number is 750-760 hp.

I would be a little surprised if it weighs 4,200 lbs. - that just seems so porky, and is nearly 500 lbs heavier than the GT350R. If I was an engineer at Ford (I'm a mechanical engineer elsewhere - not in the auto industry) I would not be happy with such a heavy car. GT350R is 3,720 lbs, hopefully the GT500 doesn't end up over 3,950 lbs. The ZL1 auto is 3,944 lbs. so I think that is the weight to meet/beat. Would be awesome if they could come in under 3,900 lbs.

With proper cooling and the supercharger, bigger brakes etc it will weigh at least 4k. A regular GT is 37xx pounds. The 500 will be at least 300 pounds heavier.

Remember how people criticized the 6th Gen Camaro for being cramped inside and praised the S550 for being roomier and having much more trunk space and all that jazz? Well this is where you're going to see those differences especially in a car that is fully optioned with huge brakes and suspension parts and adequate cooling and an auto trans a DOHC engine and a big blower etc. Look at the lightest cars that come with full options like heated/cooled seats etc...they're cars like the GTR and the Z06 and those are 2 seaters. And even for 2 seaters they're still very small on the inside. So now you have a 4 seater that isn't quite as big as the Hellcat but IS bigger and roomier than the Camaro by a lot (according to those who used to trash talk the Camaro) and has tons of visibility and you're gonna have a heavy car. I would not be surprised if it does indeed top 4200 pounds.
