It's an old case.
She needs to file chapter 11 basically. They will probably settle out of court the amount to avoid bad press. I think it's excessive. Put her in the pokey one night and $500 bucks is probably more of what it should of been to fit. |

They're persuing other means than lawsuits now. I think their current tool of choice is convincing your ISP to cancel you.
Civil case = no pokey in the cards. |

Sooooo, downloading isn't as bad as it used to be anymore? I download a few albums here and there with torrents and always felt kind of "What if they get me". Has the hype gone down now?

It costs them a ton of money to go after people like they have been. I know the article isn't reporting it as 100% fact but it has since been confirmed (just don't feel like digging it up). One thing to point out (as the article does) is that noone has been sued for downloading but sharing. So even under the old ways, as long as you download songs and configure your client to not share or move the songs out of the sharing folder, you should be fine. |

I don't think the RIAA has gone after torrent users at all. But keep in mind that torrents work by everyone sharing what they've downloaded. So although you aren't seeding, you're still uploading.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that, I set the upload limit to 1-3 kb/s, 'guess I'm still uploading. A torrent is the only thing I'll use though.
