Rear end groan after oil change on ELSD???
Did my diff fluid change after 1500 on my 1le and used the Valvoline options.
It ended up giving the first turn of the morning groan that didnt have it before. I waited awhile for it to completely empty and didnt over fill. anyone have thoughts? |

Without knowing the exact Valvoline product and the friction modifiers present, it is hard to know if what you used is compatible.
it is the friction modifiers which allow the plates to slip smoothy while turning. So, yep, sticking with AC Delco probably safest. |

Let us know after you do it and if the noise goes away. Good luck
Does anyone know the exact up to date part number for the AC Delco?

Does the ELSD take a different fluid than the MLSD? I'm looking at 3-4 different part numbers on this fluid which I cannot decipher the difference https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-88900.../dp/B00BK7LXGM https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-41.../dp/B07CL6MBX5 https://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-10-40.../dp/B000QGOX1A https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 GM does a great job with giving me a headache

Don’t dick around with the rear end only run the Dexron LS period! And if you plan on keeping your car for a long time do it annually, it’s cheap insurance.

ACDelco 10-4034 (GM 88862624 in US, 88862625 in CA) is for our cars. ACDelco 10-4016 is what my 4th gen trans am takes. The information is in the owner's manual. Page 329 in the 2019 manual. Might be a different page for different model year.

Drain some oil out and add the same amount back of the friction modifyer. I changed my rear end oil with the mobile 1 product that has the friction modifiers in it, but had to add a half tube of the friction modifier to stop the groan. Its been gone for 15k miles.

Please explain why.

Ive used Mobil 1 and Valvoline (most often due to it's slightly better VI) for 30k miles in my 1LE and it's seen many drain/fills and hard track use. I guess it's a ticking time bomb. It's easy to blame the gear oil here, as that's the only one (1) thing mentioned, but no one here has heard the OP's actual noise or put eyes on the vehicle, yet you all are jumping to a definite conclusion. |
