Unfortunately this can be the pitfalls of being so interconnected in the OEM world. Preproduction info sometimes gets logged in as full production release, and this is one of those cases. So, while information about the Manual cars being DOD/AFM free was accurate at one point, and indeed verified, the production intent and final production cars do have DOD/AFM. So, we apologize for adding in some confusion into the mix, but production cars do indeed have DOD/AFM.

Even worse is some of the companies offering camshafts for our cars must also believe the manuals don't have the hardware. The order pages specify dod delete kit required for automatic only. They may want to update that.

yikes. until this is figured out, better off pulling the heads to be sure.

for me, im out. if i cant just slide a cam in, now have to take the heads and exhaust off, i would get them ported and install headers
this turned a weekend project into a week with the car down and a lot more labor.

if im going through all that trouble and expense i would just go s/c and keep the engine sealed.

I guess back to the original question...can we turn on DOD?

All Production LT1 engines have had AFM since the 14 C7 came out. I cammed my 14 C7 auto and my 15 C7 manual, both had AFM lifters. The pitfalls you speak of are of the preproduction information that the manual cars would not have AFM. GM just failed to advise you that the LT1 manual was equipped with AFM but that it would be disabled on the manual cars. The bean counters at GM stated it was more cost effective to build 1 engine instead of 2 like the LS3 and L99 in a 5th Gen. Trust me I know being a former GM employee.

As far as the original question, AFM can be turned on the manuals but a lot of tuning needs to be done. GM does not have a calibration for the AFM to work with a manual. It will Not work like in the auto trans cars as the computer is not controlling the transmission in a manual, you are. Engine damage can occur with an improper calibration.

Wouldn't it just need to monitor engine load and time within the target engine load? Every time you hit the clutch it would just revert to v8 (which would happen anyway since the engine load would change). Starting the process over again.

Not really seeing how the manual would be so much more difficult to implement afm than the auto. the AFM switchover is super quick. maybe the v8 afm is significantly more harsh than the v6.

In HP Tuners the DoD shows as enabled however the DTCs are not enabled for anything related to DoD. There is definitely more that is not exposed by HP Tuners.

Did this ever go anywhere? I figure if my car has everything for AFM I might as well use it for all the rural and highway cruising I do.

I don't know of anyone that wants AFM in their manual Camaro. I know I damn sure don't! If it was in the car people would be wanting to disable it just like in the A8 autos. IMHO if you want to have AFM then trade yours in on a A8!

I deactivated AFM in my 15' Silverado 5.3 along with stiffening up the trans shifts a little which made it feel much better. According to my in dash MPG counter, I didn't lose any MPG at all. With the MBRP exhaust I have, it sounded like shit with AFM. Extremely happy with the results and unless something changes where it drastically increases MPG, I'll never use AFM again. (Used HP Tuners)

My dash indicated MUCH better fuel economy in V4 mode in my 15 Silverado.

Problem was it rarely went into that mode because a truck was just too much weight.

That being said, with the bigger 6.2 in a light car I bet it'd drive very well permanently in V4 mode even, then going into V8 at the press of a button, perf mode, or throttle position.
I already drive it in S/I mode most the time because the throttle is way more linear and easy to drive in traffic or slow. Wish it didn't keep defaulting to Tour mode.
