Frame/control arm strapping crossed has always served me well and I will continue to strap this way. Anyone above that wants their car "floating and rebounding" on a trailer needs to have their heads examined. Even with frame mounts the car is definitely not solid and the suspension still continues to have some compliance.
I think I will continue to strap the rear to the frame but the front spoiler is tough on the ZLE. E-Track seems to be the way to go in the front. Strapping through the wheels is the same as over the tire, but I really don't like using the wheels due to obvious reasons.

This may be my choice right here. Now to decide 18 or 20 foot. Looks like plenty of extra room for a set of tires and wheels there.

After some brief research, car haulers which have the "e-track" style platform seem to attach over the tires. Flatter/older appearing haulers tend to use frame straps or chains. Obviously, either way is secure and safe. One of my best friends is a Honda salesman and he just told me their car transports always have the cars secured to the frame with chains. Do whatever makes you happy.

The car seemed to be extremely secure, but, I'd also say that the trailer suspension is just outstanding... really could not tell anything was back there.

On the length. The Camaro measures just at 16', and initially thought 18' might not be long enough for the strap setup I was planning to use... wanting a longer stretch from tire base to endpoint. (lower angle). The bed itself though is 20'+ and as you can see plenty long BUT, as the car is on there in the pic... seems to be a nice balance (as it should be) front/rear. The longer trailer bed does give you a smudge more (lesser angle) to work with. When putting the car up there I used a small amount of rubber pads (about 2" max) stepping up. (I took a 4'x6' Barn Stall mat from TSC and made 24 1' squares I use as "ramps" and also frame stands)

18' feet is plenty long. My 18' featherlite trailer also has a tire carrier and winch which costs room. Some brands also make a 19' unit. 20' seems really long but gives plenty of space for any extras that may be desired like a larger toolbox for straps, etc.

Good to know the angle isn't quite enough for the tilt since I'm pretty set on 18' anyway.

Featherlite will probably be what I end up with since the dealer is 1 mile from my house..

mlee: Having owned a 20' 3110 long ago, which was a great trailer after you fix the noisy ramps when driving down the road, if you go with a 17' (which I wouldn't but you could), make sure it is the 8'-6" deck not the 8'. For a small (and short) car, the narrow version offered on the shorter 14' and 17' is okay. With a ZL1 1LE, as his Aluma trailer shows, you will be using all of the deck width.

Featherlite 3110's availabe in: 14' & 17' 6" = 8' or 8' 6"; 20', 22' & 24' = 8' 6"

On the 20’, you can get a power tilt-back version.

I’ve only towed my 1LE once per year the last two years with tracking it. Thinking selling my enclosed and getting another 3110. Probably 20’ just for a bit more room up front with the car on it. With my drag cars, I was forced to tow all over the country, but, rethinking it now if I can drive it like I do either on the tires I’m running it on or them in the car. The small open is much easier to tow than an extra height enclosed. Though, obviously, the enclosed has MANY advantages over the open when properly optioned and equipped.

To that note, you can get from Featherlite, ATC, etc. short length and height enclosed aluminum trailers that tow decent but won’t have tons of extra room. However, you have extra safety and security that can be towed with a half-ton.

This pic is a 24’ ATC with external tire rack and normal height 6-6” inside. I’ve seen 5-6” and 6’ inside to help with aero. Plus, they will do custom lengths 20, 21, etc. to keep cost and weight down a bit. Others besides them do this too. The road side escape door is very nice.

It was added by the Featherlite dealer as an option. It is aftermarket but looks factory. Burdette Brothers in Maryland did the modification.

I had good luck all of last year using the E-track over the tires method.

The e-track was bolted straight through to the frame, and the tire straps had rubber blocks designed to "lock" into the treads of the tires, so they don't shimmy. These straps were new, so I made sure to stop every 150 miles or so to check on them...on the first trip, and then again when it rained, there was a little stretch...so I tightened them at the gas station and went on my way.

Car was secure, and frankly, the suspension on the ZL1 1LE is so tight, there was very little "bounce" if I encountered a bump in the road.

I'm looking forward to hooking it all up to the new Colorado this summer!

I secured mine with 1/4" Torx Thread Forming (after pilot holes), then where possible underneath, replaced with replaced with Torx 1/4" bolt/washer and secured. All hardware coated with Marine Grade Anti-Seize.

My "maiden voyage" to RoadAtlanta was only 30miles, but, wanted to run through the paces anyway. Was very happy with the MACS straps as-well.

And agreed on the 1LE suspension...
